Let’s say you’ve finally made up your mind to buy a Chanel Classic Flap. Now, you’re faced with another array of decisions: what material best suits your needs, and which color fits your personality? Among all of these choices, you also have to settle on a specific size. With 7 different sizes to choose from, it’s not an easy decision!
This difficulty is only exacerbated by the fact that most websites only provide the dimensions of Chanel Flap Bags. While the numbers are important to keep in mind, they aren’t really that conducive to visualizing what the bag will actually look like on your shoulder or slung across your body. For that, a real life comparison is incredibly helpful. This is something PurseBop has learned from the favorable response to our Hermès Birkin size comparison, which quickly became a favorite post within our community! Knowing that we have many Chanel lovers in the PurseBop family, we thought we’d do a Chanel version of the guide to help you out.
So, we’ve had two models with different body types model various sizes of the quintessential Chanel bag to give you a better idea of how each might suit you. We’re excited for you to see all of the pictures and compare them yourself! First, let’s recap the main details of the Chanel Classic Flap: size and pricing.

Pros & Cons: Best Uses of Each Size
Remember, you should pick your bag size based off your own needs, style, and most importantly, desire! There are no set rules when it comes to sizes because what is popular or appropriate is always changing. Trends are cyclical – one day mini bags may be out and oversized bags could make a comeback, and vice versa. People may tell you that you have to pick a size that matches your body frame or that one size is a better investment than another. At the end of the day, your personal happiness with the bag will outweigh any other factor!
If you are looking for guidelines to help with your research, see our notes about each bag below:
Maxi
- Best suited for travel
- Better seen as a “statement” bag because the extra large size can be a little cumbersome depending on your needs and preferences
- You can (almost) throw it all in!
- This bag can be a little heavy and bulky even without stuffing it due to the amount of leather
Jumbo
- Best suited for travel
- Makes a great errand bag
- Can hold things like a wallet, a journal, a makeup bag, devices, keys and more
Medium
- Arguably the most versatile size
- Great capacity without being too large or too small
- Can hold things such as a wallet, small journal, toiletries, keys, a phone, and more
Small
- Perfect for everyday or formal occasions
- An elegant size that is very versatile
- Only a little bit less capacity than the medium size
Mini Rectangle
- One of the most popular Chanel styles, especially since the rise of the mini craze
- Great to buy in a pattern, crazy color, or exotic leather as the small surface will make designs pop
- Can be worn crossbody on most body types
- Can easily transition from an everyday bag to a night out bag
Mini Square
- Square shape is unique and distinct compared to other Chanel bags
- Can be worn crossbody, but depends on your body as it may lay awkwardly on some people
Extra Mini
- Best suited for formal occasions or as a statement bag depending on the material or color
- The easiest style to wear crossbody across body types
- Very little storage

I do love my jumbo but I find if I wear it in the summer with bare shoulders and I carry too much in it it does leave marks and hurt my shoulder… Probably the medium is better for everyday as you said!
The Medium bag shown here is a 2.55 Reissue. This has the chain with no leather. It IS the perfect size Chanel bag, but the CC Medium is not the same at all as it is smaller abd the chain is shorter and cannot be worn crossbody.
Only the rectangular mini can be worn crossbody. Small , m/l no. Jumbo maxi yes. My favorite for crossbody is rectangular mini https://youtu.be/CcP0Bmiig88
Check out video on rectangular mini. It’s lighter and can be crossbody. https://youtu.be/CcP0Bmiig88
Thanks will check it out!
I was just in the Chanel boutique in Ireland and the rectangle mini was Euro 2150….
Both these models are SHORT. A Jumbo looks totally different on someone say over 5’8″
At five-two, I wouldn’t carry anything bigger than my chanel medium.
Small or medium, only. Nothing bigger. I’m five-two.
