New York, London, Milan, and Paris stand as the most iconic fashion capitals in the world. However, there’s a fifth global fashion week that isn’t just about the latest trends – Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Held bi-annually in January/February and August, CPHFW distinguishes itself with a strong commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Featuring Scandinavian designers like Skall Studio, Saks Potts, Marimekko, and Rotate Birger Christensen, CPHFW celebrates the perfect blend of timeless elegance and contemporary design.

With the Spring/Summer 2025 presentations wrapping up on August 9, 2024, Copenhagen’s streets were alive with fashion-forward attendees from around the globe. This year, it was the accessories – particularly the bags – that stole the spotlight. From vintage treasures to Y2K gems, these standout pieces not only showcased the latest trends but also championed sustainable fashion.

Now, let’s dive into the standout bags and trends spotted at Copenhagen Fashion Week.

‘Birkinfied’ Bags

The trend of ‘Birkinifying’ handbags continues to flourish, especially in Copenhagen.

Janka Polliani and Marianne Theodorsen continue to master this style, showcasing a myriad of bags across the week. Among the bags spotted were Louis Vuitton’s Nano Speedy, Chanel’s Classic Flap, Balenciaga’s City Tote, and Miu Miu’s Arcadie – each adorned with a plethora of charms.

Vintage Gems

In line with CPHFW’s sustainability focus, where reuse and repetition were the order of the event, many attendees delved into their vintage handbag collections.

Marianne Theodorsen added a touch of vintage Dior charm with the zebra print Malice bag from the Fall/Winter 1999 collection. Not stopping there, she also accessorized with her 1997 Lady Dior in leopard print canvas.

Chanel remained a popular choice, with Marie Heyman Lüttichau opting for a 1990s Triple Coco shoulder bag in beige tan suede.

Elise Bak complemented her beige-toned jacket with a matching bag from Chanel’s early 2000s ‘Chocolate Bar’ range.

A true vintage gem was Tine Van Cauwenberghe’s incredibly rare Chanel CC Double Heart Clutch in patent beige and black leather.

And just like that, we’re back to Sex and the City – Marianne Theodorsen made a statement with her collection of vintage Fendi Baguettes – including the rose beaded design with snakeskin and the yellow sequin edition.

Y2K Style

Y2K styling was on the agenda with fashionistas pulling out both old and new styles.

London-based influencer Noorie Ana left her Classic Flap bags at home, opting instead for contemporary cool with her Chanel By The Sea Flap bag.

Influencer Nina Sandbech showcased a variety of different styles across CPHW. Notably, she styled the re-edition of John Galliano’s iconic 2000 Dior Newspaper Saddle bag.

Anything But Basic Monogram

Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram featured prominently in street style this season. However, not just any old Monogram. The fashion-forward crowd opted for elevated basics and limited edition LV offerings.

Editor of Eurowoman, Catherine Leth Damgaard elevated her minimalist look with Louis Vuitton’s limited edition Dalmation-adorned Petite Boîte Chapeau from the Sun Yitian Pre-Fall 2024 collection.

Emili Sindlev opted for the Alma BB featuring the Zebra graphic design from the same collection – of course, adorned with her own key clochette.

Meanwhile, Sonia Lyson styled her cowboy cool look with the Atalntis BB in Baby Blue leather from the Sun Yitian collaboration – with the playful duch-head coin purse attached.

Tine Van Cauwenberghe added a touch of the ‘Craggy’ Monogram from the LV x Tyler, the Creator collaboration with the perfectly petite Keepall Bandoulière 25.

A standout throwback was the Trouville bag in Monogram Multicolore from the Takashi Murakami 2003 LV collection.

Louis Vuitton’s 2005 Monogram denim collection by Marc Jacobs remains a cult favorite, especially with the brand’s recent relaunch for 2024. Anna Winck embraced the revival, styling her look with the iconic Pleaty bag in the pink denim Monogram.

Effortless East-West

Elongated, elegant, and effortless – east-west bags were another standout theme at CPHFW.

Hanna Stefansson paired a classic Dior look with the Latte-colored Lady D-Joy handbag. Dior fever didn’t stop there for Hanna, as she also styled all-denim with the Diorstar Hobo Bag with Chain.

Miu Miu’s Arcadie bag remained a favorite – seen in both the Matelassé and suede iterations, in a range of sizes, with and without bag charms.

Big Birkins

In Copenhagen, Birkin 25s took a backseat, with larger sizes commanding attention. The spotlight was on the size 30 and the original Jane Birkin size 35, dominating the cobblestone streets.
