PurseBop is getting really excited about maestro Karl Lagerfeld’s upcoming Métiers d’Art show in Dallas! In July, the extravaganza’s theme was revealed: “The Return”. Lagerfeld told Vogue, “I will go to Dallas, You know why? First of all, I love Texas and I love Texans. There’s another reason. When Chanel reopened, the French press was beyond nasty. The only press that understood it immediately was the American press and it was Neiman Marcus that gave her the Oscar for her collection, so I think it’s a nice thing to go there.”
By Oscar, Karl is referring to the Neiman Marcus Award for Distinguished Service in the ‘Field of Fashion,’ presented to Chanel in 1957. Coco closed her fashion house because of World War II and reopened it 16 years later. As Lagerfeld said, Dallas-based luxury department store Neiman Marcus embraced Chanel with open arms, and he’s using the upcoming Métiers d’Art to commemorate this special relationship.
The members of the Dallas Chanel team at the downtown NM location are all busy bees undertaking a major renovation to create the perfect space for Karl’s visit! I can hardly wait to see it myself!!
As a bonus, Lagerfeld is himself directing a film to accompany the show saying it will “be in old Technicolor – like [Paris] Match photos.” He plans to document the period in the mid-Fifties when Coco hit it big in America.
The last Metiers d’Art spectacle was staged in the ruins of Lithlingow Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland (see PurseBop’s extensive review here). Since 2003, the show has been an opportunity for Chanel to showcase the craftsmanship of its talented small ateliers. These limited edition collections are presented once a year in different locations around the globe in glorious pompous style— AND THIS YEAR IT’S DALLAS’S TURN!
I can’t help but wonder, will Karl go…western? Will we see Chanel cowboy hats? Chanel spurs and boots?? I can hardly ‘hold my stirrups’ in anticipation… As they say, everything’s bigger in Texas… and who does it bigger (and better) than Chanel…XO
Texan model Erin Wasson closes out Fall 2013 Chanel couture show in Paris…Karl is already highlighting his Texan spirit!
Karl Lagerfeld drew fashion heavy-hitters, like Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour for the Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) CEO Summit in New York where he made his Dallas venue announcement.
Some people look forward to the Macy’s parade at Thanksgiving…others can’t wait for the Countdown and ball to drop on NYE in NYC…
BUT PurseBop’s favorite annual treat is definitely the Chanel Métiers d’Art show and all indications are that this one will be as fantastic as the rest!
AND you can bet PurseBop is gonna be there!
Bop along with ME for more updates!
Howdy y’all…
Love,
