As Paris Fashion Week gracefully concludes, Chanel unveiled its Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear collection. Returning to the Grand Palais Éphémère after a four-year renovation funded in part by Chanel, the show on October 1st had an air of anticipation and nostalgia. In the lead-up to the show, Chanel described the significance of the iconic Parisian building, expressing:
“On the occasion of the show, the House is making its return to the Grand Palais, a place of culture and the privileged setting of the CHANEL shows for two decades. Today, the entrance to the Nave bears the name of Gabrielle Chanel symbolizing the close ties between the House and the Grand Palais.”
Amid ongoing speculation about Chanel’s creative future, the show must go on, and the brand leaned confidently on its storied heritage. Reminiscent of the iconic 1991 ‘COCO’ ad campaign, the runway featured an oversized white birdcage. However, instead of Vanessa Paradis whistling from the swing inside, Riley Keough delivered a performance of Prince’s When Doves Cry during the finale. Notably, there was no one to take the traditional designer bow at the conclusion, adding an air of intrigue to the event as the fashion industry continues to await an announcement of Chanel’s new creative director.
The Chanel Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear collection captivates with its classic monochrome aesthetic, artfully playing with texture and opacity, with a flurry of feathers. Showcasing an array of iconic tweed bouclé two-pieces, these looks were either styled alone or elegantly paired with sheer silk, emphasizing exceptional tailoring with an effortless vibe.
Midway through the show, the collection introduced a gentle shift toward color. The hues were notably softer and less saturated, perfectly primed for summer. Delicate prints were sprinkled throughout, featuring nautical stripes, checks, and a refined feather motif that echoed the birdcage set design. The color palette included soft pastels like pink, yellow, aqua green, and blue, with a more vibrant orange adding a striking touch. Intriguingly, the runway concluded as it began, returning to chic monochrome ensembles that encapsulate Chanel’s timelessness.
Chanel Spring-Summer 2025 Handbags
In a surprising departure for Chanel, handbags took a back seat on the Spring-Summer 2025 runway. As models confidently walked the runway, fewer than 30 of the 76 looks featured handbags, signaling a more pared-back approach to accessories this season. Yet, Chanel went large on its heritage quilted leather with many styles featuring an oversize pattern along with gold-tone hardware. Bigger bags also dominated, with a brand-new Hobo-style design making its debut in a variety of sizes and colorways, offering an effortless yet bold energy to the collection.
While Chanel’s Classic Flap made appearances, it played a more subtle role this season. Sprinkled throughout the lineup in new tweed variations, it wasn’t the prominent force we’ve come to expect. Other designs appeared to be on the smaller side, with many clutched by hand, giving a more intimate, refined feel.
Let’s take a closer look at the bags. . .
Hobo Bag
The Hobo bag silhouette shows no signs of waning for the Spring-Summer 2025 season. While not entirely new to Chanel, this collection presents a fresh take on the functional design. The latest iteration combines the signature slouch of the beloved Chanel 22 with a trapezoid-shaped silhouette, infused with iconic Chanel elements to create a distinctive look.
Practical pockets are situated on either end of the bag, each secured with a CC fastening, while a drawstring closure at the front adds to its versatility. Finished with a single chain shoulder strap, the bag was primarily styled by hand on the runway, with only one model showcasing it slung effortlessly across the shoulder.
Shown in two sizes, the Hobo bag was presented in a range of leather colorways, including black, pale pink, white, and pale green. Notably, one design was crafted from washed black denim, adding an even more casual addition to the lineup.
Top Handle Flap Bag Goes Oversized
Channeling the vibes of Chanel’s top handle bags, this season’s iteration takes it up a notch with an XL design. Crafted in an oversized flat quilted style reminiscent of vintage aesthetics, this slouchy top-handle bag features a flap front closure secured with a signature CC clasp. Complete with a matching chunky chain and a large top handle to perfectly balance its proportions, the bag also includes four protective feet on the base. On the runway, it was casually styled tucked under the arm as a statement oversized clutch, and presented in black and white.
For a more practical day-to-day bag, there’s a smaller design too.
Tote Bag
Another standout addition is the new leather tote, featuring a flat-stitched quilted design like that on the top-handle bag. This tote offers a slouchy vibe similar to the Chanel 22. Adorned with a subtle CC detail at the front, it has two top handles and was styled on the runway slung over the shoulder. The bag is also equipped with four protective feet.
Backpack
Echoing the relaxed style of the new Hobo bag, Chanel introduces a fresh backpack design. Offering a slouchy, laid-back silhouette, this backpack stands out for its minimalist approach, with no visible Chanel logo branding — just sleek, stitch-detailed quilting. Secured with a zip-top closure, it features chain strap detailing that appears to be adjustable.
On the runway, it was showcased in both black and white smooth leather, complemented by gold-tone hardware.
Full Flap Bag with Chain
Chanel modernizes its iconic full flap design – most commonly found in vintage styles. Boasting a quilted, some-what scrunched, shape, this style features a chain that extends from inside the bag—similar to the Wallet On Chain—rather than the classic eyelet design seen on the Classic Flap. Secured with a CC turn-lock, this bag offers a more laid-back feel than previous styles.
On the runway, it was styled both as a clutch and carried by hand with the chain shoulder strap. This new design was showcased in a range of sizes from small to large, in black, pale yellow, pale blue, and white—all paired with gold-tone hardware.
A similar style, presented in a smaller format, is crafted from white bouclé tweed with matching fringe detailing, elegantly finished with a gold-tone bijoux chain.
Classic Flap
Surprisingly, the iconic Classic Flap didn’t make an appearance until halfway through the runway showcase. This season, it was presented in an array of pastel shades crafted from luxurious wool tweed. Featured in pale yellow, pale pink, and pale blue, each bag was adorned with a contrasting black check design and elegantly paired with coordinating ensembles.
In a notable departure from tradition, only one leather Classic Flap was showcased, introduced in a vibrant coral-tone red. Additionally, the mini bags that have dominated past seasons were more sparsely on display, more of a sprinkling than a trend.
Minaudière
Drawing inspiration from archival designs and reflecting the runway’s aesthetic, Chanel reintroduces the Bird Cage Minaudières. Last seen on the Métiers d’Art 2020 runway, this iconic accessory has been reimagined for the Spring-Summer 2025 collection. Presented in three refined colorways — Gold, Silver, and Ruthenium — the new version offers a more minimalist take compared to its 2020 predecessor. The minaudière features a sleek, rectangular silhouette with a domed roof, subtly echoing the architecture of the Grand Palais. A delicate CC clasp secures the piece, while the cage remains empty — as the birds appear to have already flown away and perched on top.

Mesh Bags
Channeling the allure of Alaïa’s infamous mesh bags and shoes, Chanel steps into the trend with two exciting new styles.
First up is a ’90s-inspired shoulder bag crafted from black mesh, complemented by quilted leather side panels and a double-chain shoulder strap, it is also adorned with a signature CC. Secured with a zip closure, this semi-sheer bag features an internal pouch.
Making a bold statement on the runway was the crescent-shaped mesh bag. Crafted from the same blend of mesh and smooth leather, this curved black bag is finished with a CC and adorned with a plume of feathers.
Minis
While the larger styles caught our attention, in true Chanel style, the collection included a smattering of mini bags too.
First up was a seasonal Mini Flap bag, crafted from metallic silver leather and complemented by contrasting gold-tone hardware.
Staying on the metallic theme – a Mini Flap bag dazzled with a fringe-like effect silver sequin design.
On the even more miniature side, there was a Wallet On Chain design in pastel yellow lambskin leather. Featuring a classic quilted flap-over design, this small leather good (SLG) was elegantly finished with a chain handle.
Clutch
Once again, clutches are at hand in this collection. Similar in style to the wristlet from Chanel’s Fall-Winter 2024 collection, this new design opts for a more glamorous vibe. Crafted from smooth leather, each clutch is adorned with a faux pearl detail and the signature CC logo. The slightly ruched design mirrors the relaxed aesthetic of the Full Flap Bag with Chain discussed above. Available in black and metallic silver, the black version appeared to feature a chain strap, though it remains unconfirmed whether the strap is detachable.

Oh no, Chanel looks like going downhill from this collection. What’s happened to elegance n classiness. The designs looks like a mess n incoherent
Looking for 1
SOOOOO I guess artificial intelligence is the new creative director for CHANEL because all the bags look like a mish mash of current bags on market and a mishmash of Karl’s popular looks from certain shows of the past.
I wish I’d could afford one of these beautiful purses.
I do wear only Coco Chanel makeup.
