Finding the perfect bag is all about doing your handbag homework thoroughly. We’ve all probably spent many nights glued to our computers looking up bag styles, colors, sizes, and of course…prices! The internet is the first resource for shoppers when it comes to handbag buying. Shoppers extensively research bags to make informed purchases, but also because they find joy in the challenge of shopping for a new bag (Read: Handbag Shopping – Does More Browsing Increase Satisfaction?)

So, what kind of bags are shoppers looking for these days?

Refinery29 recently reported the top 10 trending and most searched for handbags based on data from a fashion website called Polyvore. The data provides insights to the most popular handbag styles and brands, site-wide and by state from June 26 to July 26, as measured by user searches. Here is the complete list below…

Most Searched For Bags:

Givenchy Antigona (#1) ~ @duchessoffashion_

Chanel Classic Flap (#2) ~ @mylifemywardrobe

Chanel Boy Bag (#3) ~ @r1cc1

Chloe Marcie Bag (#4) ~ @slegna

Furla Candy Bag (#5) ~ @labelsforlunch

Chanel Mini Bag (#6) ~ @chase_amie

Gucci Boston Bag (#7) ~ @loveithateit_ig

Stella McCartney Falabella Bag (#8) ~ @meikkibeibi

As expected, this list includes a lot familiar “it” bags, but there are also a few surprises or lesser-known bags that are getting a lot of attention too. Again, this list may be more tailored to Polyvore’s user base, but it is still quite reflective of popular bags in general.

This study gives a good perspective of what styles and brands have the greatest influence at the moment. While the rankings are interesting in and of themselves, it is more interesting to think about why handbags captivate us so much. Shoppers see bag buying as a research project, and sometimes, bags are even considered investments (Read: Should A Bag Be An “Investment”?). In our bag attitude quiz, we witnessed that people deeply value their bags and express their handbag love in many different ways. Shoppers contemplate more than just price and brand when making a purchase – they consider how a bag will fit into their lifestyle. A recent NPD Group study even assessed that millennials in particular “treat the handbag purchase journey as a complex, rational, and emotional experience” (Read: Are Millennials Less Concerned About Handbag Brand Name?).

These lists numerically reflect the most popular bags, styles, and brands. However, we have to remember that these rankings are the manifestation of something deeper. These lists also reflect what shoppers are genuinely curious about and what they really admire.

I don’t own any of these popular bags. I just bought a vintage white Gucci Kelly bag, and am waiting for my Celine crocodile Boogie Bag to arrive. Contemplating a Hermes Kelly and a Celine box bag next.
