When it comes to silhouettes, Chanel mostly sticks with what they know. With the exception of a few, crazy novelty bags that hit runway, most new releases are modified versions of iconic bags like the Classic Flap and the Boy Bag. Chanel’s consistency over the years isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. The Classic Flap and the Boy Bag are two of the most loved bags in the handbag world. So the mantra, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” seems to be working in Chanel’s favor.
Chanel’s latest rendition of the Boy Bag might just be another crowd pleaser. Can a top handle take the Chanel Boy Bag to a whole new level?
The Chanel Boy Bag with Handle first popped up on our radar after Chanel’s Metiers d’Art 2015 Paris-Salzburg runway show. Now, new versions of the Boy Bag with Handle are being released as a part of the Metiers d’Art Paris in Rome 2016 collection, and they are currently available in boutiques.
So, does the handle make all the difference? In general, top handles have a very feminine, traditional look. The handle on this Boy adds a element of sophistication to a bag that is considered more utilitarian, sporty, and casual. Even with more feminine, sophisticated accents, the Boy Bag with Handle still has a rocker chic look with its bold, hardware detailing
Better yet, the Boy Bag with Handle is made with a longer shoulder strap allowing for crossbody wear, unlike the original Boy Bag. When the Boy Bag with Handle is toted by the top handle, you can leave the chain strap dangling down for more dimension and movement.
The Chanel Boy Bag with Handle is available in two different sizes. The bigger size is comparable to the old medium size of the original Boy Bag. The smaller is comparable to the small size of the original Boy Bag.
