The end of May brought Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2019 show to the French Riviera at Fondation Maeght. Some have called the 80s-inspired collection funky, eclectic and quirky. Naturally, here at PurseBop, our attention went to the handbags. We saw some old, some new, not yet anything blue (that we could discern).
One of the most interesting things we’ve heard actually has nothing to do with bags. Page Six is reporting that before the show Louis Vuitton hired a shaman to prevent rain from ruining the extravagant show. Apparently it didn’t rain until after the show, so you can draw your own conclusions.
As we await more details about the bag collection, here’s what we do know.
Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière included a collaboration with former Vogue editor (and fashion icon) Grace Coddington featuring cats. Apparently Ghesquière is a fan of Coddington’s quirky style and (perhaps taking a page out of Karl Lagerfeld’s playbook), decided to honor her pets. Are you feline-ing it?
We noticed some oversized tab details on both should and handheld bags. The shoulder bag included ain interesting logo detail – LV within a circle – as well as a chain strap.
A new shape of structured bag appeared – neither rectangular as the trunk nor circular as the boîte, call it a squishy rhombus shape, perhaps. In an oversized damier-type checkerboard pattern, it had both an asymmetrical handle and chain strap.
For those of you preferring straighter angles, the collection includes a trunk-like bag and a box clutch.
Not to be left out, there’s a twist on the bucket or hobo style with a strap.
Any of these on your wish list for Cruise 2019?
