Chanel prices are definitely going up October 31st… at least on some bags. There’s both good news and bad news in the details.
Obviously, the bad news is that prices are rising on Medium and Jumbo Classic and 2.55 Flaps, and on all sizes of Boys. The good news is that the hike is not as bad as anticipated or as prior increases, and Minis, Smalls and Maxi Classics will be spared, at least for now. Similarly, newer models like the Gabrielle, the 31 and the 19 are safe.
The New Chanel Prices
Prices of Chanel Classic Flap and 2.55 Reissues are rising by $200 on the Medium and Jumbo sizes. For the 2.55 reissues, that translates to the 225 and 226 models. As you can see on the chart, that puts the medium-sized bags at $5,800 and jumbo-sized at $6,400.
Boy Bags of all sizes face a $100 increase per bag. This puts the most expensive Boy at $5,800, the same price as the Medium Classic Flaps. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Analysis
In terms of why the increases are smaller than typical hikes, we suspect Chanel realizes the backlash it would face otherwise. An expectation of outrage is not hyperbole: increases of $500-700 a pop likely would turn away customers. Moreover, as the prices of these bags continue to approach those of Hermès classic, clientele ponder whether it is time to switch from the quilted flaps to the orange side. We hear it all the time in the PurseBop community. For now, Chanel just cannot continue to sustain huge price increases.
As for why medium and jumbo-sizes are affected and not certain others, we assume it relates to demand. Those models tend to be more popular than smalls and maxis.
So who might be pleased with a price increase? Bag owners who feel the value of their collections rises with each hike. Also resellers—as it may increase demand for previously-owned bags and with that allow them to raise prices.
Are you rushing to your Chanel boutique to beat the price spikes? Or sitting tight with your collection? Does this have you considering other brands? Let us hear from you.
