Once again taking inspiration from its archives, Louis Vuitton is re-releasing its 1980s Odéon bag for Fall 2020. The new design features modern twists on the style’s retro appeal.

The updated Odeon is a bit sharper. The rounded edges of the original give way to a more rectangular, messenger bag style in the new model. Additionally, the purse boasts a double zip closure and flat pockets both inside and outside of the bag providing maximum functionality.

The new design features leather tabs on the corners and an adjustable leather strap which allows for both shoulder and cross-body wear. Paying homage to Vuitton’s distinct spirit of travel, the new Odéon bag comes with a leather luggage tag.

Similar to the original, the re-release is only available in Monogram canvas however the new model features a semi-aged natural cowhide leather trim. Additionally, the contemporary style is available with a black leather trim.

The appeal of 1980s fashion is certainly understandable. That decade birthed iconic designs like the double CC logo on the Chanel Classic Flap and the Prada Nylon Backpack. Perhaps it’s no surprise that the sleek and effortlessly classic style of Vuitton’s Odéon bag should make a resurgence in today’s uncertain times.
Furthermore, the style is well-suited to fall. Whether heading back to work, school or in search of some kind of normality, the Odéon’s boxy, rectangular shape and adjustable strap make it a terrific everyday bag.
The new version is available in two sizes – the PM and larger MM.

The house’s original Odéon design from the 1980s can be found on several resale sites including Fashionphile. The now vintage bag will set you back considerably less than its contemporary counterpart. Prices vary depending on the condition however a vintage pre-loved Odéon bag will generally cost between $700 and $900.
