Classic handbags are classics for a reason. Styles like the Louis Vuitton Speedy or Neverfull are beloved the world over however nothing gets purse lovers excited like brand new designs! Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière has fully embraced this conviction with his Spring 2021 ready-to-wear collection for the house. Featuring a myriad of new bags and even a fresh multi bag style worthy of Multi Pochette level obsession, the show was certainly a gripping end to a truly unique fashion month.

Speaking to Vogue about the difficulties involved with putting on a show of this scale during a pandemic, Ghesquière said, “It’s going to be beautiful, and it’s about being responsible without losing the effect I want to give.”
Audience members as well as those live streaming the show watched as a slew of original bags in fresh shapes and exciting color palettes took over the runway. Dispersed throughout the attendees, 360-degree cameras allowed those unable to be present due to pandemic travel restrictions to feel like they were really there.

It is unclear what long lasting effect the pandemic will have on the fashion industry, even to those who work in it. However, Ghesquière believes that it has prompted the industry to place greater urgency on important matters like inclusivity.
Ghesquière’s vision focuses on genderless style. “I found it inspiring to explore what the items are that represent this wardrobe that is not feminine, not masculine,” The designer told Vogue Runway. He credited nonbinary people with taking the freedom to dress themselves outside of society’s traditional constraints of femininity and masculinity.

The idea of genderless style translates to arguably the collection’s most standout piece, the Utility Crossbody bag. The monogrammed design features a main structured rectangular compartment and two smaller zipped compartments along with a square-shaped wallet-style pouch attached to a cross-body strap. The look is less feminine than Louis Vuitton’s widely popular Multi Pochette. With more compartments you’ll have plenty of options to store your mask and hand sanitizer!

Less Monogram designs appear than previous seasons. Despite this, in typical Vuitton fashion, Ghesquière pays homage to the house’s beloved materials and patterns by combining them with new and alluring shapes and colors. The signature LV padlock features heavily throughout the collection, often being highlighted at the centre of the bag.
Relaxed Style For Spring
The designer embraces slouchy, wearable pieces such as the new Chroma Key bag. The design is a large rectangular-shaped accordion style bag featuring a single chunky chain strap. The Chroma Key’s quilted leather embellished with Vuitton’s classic Monogram pattern is reminiscent of the house’s popular Empreinte leather.
The bag appears in an array of colors including cream and a vibrant apple green, dubbed the season’s signature green on the official Louis Vuitton Instagram.

Slanted But Stylish
Ghesquière’s experimentation with new shapes is evidently seen in the new Blade Clutch. Sporting heavy padlock detail and a large opening flap, this bag has a unique slanted shape. The style features on the runway in the collection’s signature green hue and metallic.

Parisian Chic
Not exactly a new shape, the Parisian Chic bag looks somewhat like a classic LV planner attached to a thick chain and finished with heavy padlock detail emblematic of the new collection. The style appears in black with studded Monogram motifs as well as chestnut brown, black, khaki green croc and brown croc.

Forget the Bucket Hat, the Bucket Bag is Next Season's Must-Have Accessory
In celebration of Vuitton’s esteemed heritage, Ghesquière’s new Bucket bag is inspired by the house’s Cruiser bag design. The purse has a zip closure which when open gives the bag a spherical shape however when closed the bag appears more structured and boxy. The updated design features Monogram studs and is available in varying sizes – deep chestnut and snakeskin with black leather trimming in the smaller option; apple green with black leather trimming in the larger.

Totally Refined And Ready For Spring!
The Total Refinement bag offers a top handle design in a slightly softer silhouette than previous styles by Ghesquière (Read: Louis Vuitton Fall 2020 Bags Encompass the Past, Present and Future). The LV logo appears at the centre of the bag giving the look a sleek finish. Comparable in size to a Birkin 25, the style is available in cream or apple green, both finished with a black leather trimming.

Small But Mighty
The small cross-body bag remains a popular style amongst luxury brands so it’s no surprise the look is included in Vuitton’s offering for Spring 2021. The bag is shown in light brown croc and green croc with a deep burgundy strap, both featuring the collection’s signature padlock detail.
