Silvia Venturini Fendi’s final collection for the Italian fashion house is undoubtedly a celebration of Fendi’s most iconic bags. For her Spring 2021 ready-to-wear collection which debuted at Milan Fashion Week, Venturini Fendi reinterprets the iconic Baguette and Peekaboo bags in new materials. Combining these styles with contemporary handbag trends, such as the multi bag look, the collection honours Fendi’s history while revelling in the season’s most outlandish bag fashions.
The collection also debuts a whole host of new bags which prove archetypal of the house’s wacky and vibrant design aesthetic.
The last of the Fendi family working for the house, the designer’s leaving signals the end of an era for Fendi. Kim Jones, formerly of Louis Vuitton and Dior, is set to take the reins next season as Fendi’s artistic director of women’s collections.
For her farewell collection, Venturini Fendi uses a range of materials with a vintage aesthetic to reinterpret house classics. “I wanted to connect with the past,” Venturini Fendi told Vogue.
Here’s our take on the bags from Fendi’s Spring 2021 ready-to-wear collection, from the weird and wacky to the downright beautiful. Enjoy!
To the Shops We Go!
What does spring 2021 need? A structured pink basket bag with the ability to turn any grocery store outing into a chic affair! This small top handle structured bag is formed of a hard criss-crossed material all over and sports a circular Fendi logo at the centre. The bag’s form is akin to a shopping basket. This may not be the kind of aesthetic that comes to mind when you think of high end fashion. However, few things are more swanky than running errands in luxury couture!
Semi-Circle But Fully On-Trend
A standout piece in Venturini Fendi’s spring 2021 offering is a semi-circle shaped cross-body flap bag. The new style sports visible stitching along the edge of the flap and Fendi’s famous FF insignia placed on a clasp at the centre, owing to the house’s love of logos. The style reminds us of the new Dior Bobby bag.

Dior Bobby Bag: Now in Three New Colors
Considering the success of the Bobby, it’s no surprise the collection offers the bag in three colors – mustard yellow, white and chestnut brown.
The mustard yellow option comes with a mini flask holder and small wicker container as keychains. This is not only perfect for the quintessential spring picnic but teases the prominent multi bag trend!
Another Slouchy Pouch!
There’s no denying that the Bottega Veneta Pouch was one of the biggest and most unexpected ‘It’ bags of last year. For spring 2021 Fendi takes inspiration from Bottega Veneta’s widely popular relaxed design with a slouchy new clutch bag of its own.
The style comes in an interesting crochet material similar to a Bottega Veneta handbag recently spotted on Kylie Jenner’s Instagram. Fendi’s pouch design comes with a thick wicker handle archetypal of carfree spring/summer style.
The design comes in a dark beige shade. A matching crochet micro pouch in a bright lemon yellow hue is attached to the bag giving the look a pop of color. It’s clear to see that the trend of hanging small bags on larger styles to create a multi bag look isn’t going anywhere.

Yet Another Slouchy Design For Spring 2021
Speaking of crochet bags, the house doesn’t stop at pouches. Another of Venturini Fendi’s slouchy crochet designs is a half-moon shaped shoulder bag complete with Fendi’s iconic FF logo in the form of a flap closure. The bag features a mini flask holder attached as a keychain.
Fisherman Chic
It’s fair to say many of us have lost touch with nature after being restricted to staying inside our homes for months due to the pandemic. A fisherman net bag from Venturini Fendi’s collection is the closest most of us have gotten to nature for quite some time.
This unstructured shopping tote comes in an interesting black glossy material. The bag features a hard closure clasp and tortoise shell-look top handles complete with FF insignia. Perhaps the great outdoors is just what us bag lovers have been craving?!
Baguette, Reimagined
Designed by Venturini Fendi in 1997, the Fendi Baguette bag rose to icon status after being spotted on the arm of Carrie Bradshaw on the hit show Sex And the City. Like all classic designs, the Baguette is constantly being reimagined by the house in ever-alluring materials and patterns.
For Spring 2021, Venturini Fendi reimagines the iconic style in cream and bright fuchsia materials embossed with a braided ajouré FF motif. Both color options feature the Baguette’s clasp in chestnut brown. Similar to several of the collection’s designs, the fuchsia Baguette appears on the runway alongside a crochet micro pouch and a small wicker container as keychains.
Peekaboo But Make it Look Vintage
The Peekaboo is another popular classic of Fendi’s. One of Venturini Fendi’s most recent iterations of the bag is white and features a braided ajouré rim complete with a chestnut brown top handle.
Another combines braided ajouré and artisan-hewn bobbin lace in white, giving the bag a delicate vintage-look finish.
Wicker Bags For Spring
Nothing says spring/summer style quite like a wicker bag. Fendi reimagines its classics in aestival designs. One Baguette is made from a structured wicker material with a white linen flap and chestnut brown leather finishes. Another is all-over structured wicker complete with a gold tone hardware and light beige clasp.
Fendi’s elegant top handle design, the Peekaboo, is most commonly envisioned as a sleek leather bag. However, a soft wicker version of the style in Fendi’s offering for next spring may have you rethinking this.
Cloaked Classics
The collection sees some classic styles clocked in a sheer material. Flower embroidered Baguettes in shades of deep fuchsia, tangerine and white are visible through transparent material finished with Broderie anglaise. The needlework technique, popular in England during the 19th century, gives the accessories a vintage and somewhat whimsical feel.
A Mini Baguette embroidered with flowers and finished in tangerine with a thin cross-body chain strap also graced the runway cloaked in the material.
Are Unisex Bags the Future?
Like many fashion houses in recent seasons, Fendi’s Spring 2021 ready-to-wear offering was shown as a unisex collection. Male models walked the runway carrying top handle tote bags adorned with a myriad of bag charms in the form of mini bags and accessory holders. Two of the styles consist of structured square shapes.
One bag dons a cream colored material embossed with a braided ajouré FF motif, previously seen on a Baguette in the collection. The look includes a mini rectangular shaped pouch perfect for your phone and worn as a bag charm.
Another tote carried by a male model sports Fendi’s signature FF logo embroidered into a wicker design. The look also follows the trend of using bag charms to add functionality and style. A looped black strap carrying a pair of gloves is attached to one of the top handles.
With stylish and roomy bags like these on offer, a future full of unisex handbag designs is looking bright!
