Gucci Revives the Ever Popular Jackie Bag

Gucci’s Fall Winter 2020 fashion show had several eye catching pieces in the collection. (Read:Gucci Fall 2020 Bags Are Simple and Classic) However, the bag that really caught our eye is the revamped “Jackie” bag. Clearly, we weren’t the only ones impressed with this bag. Since its release, several celebrities carried the Jackie, including Cate Blanchett, Elle Fanning and Jodie Turner-Smith.

History Behind The Jackie Bag

The original bag, designed in 1961, was simply called G1244. Elegantly crafted with a signature curved shape and a delicately wrought gold closure, the bag was a must-have Gucci staple in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Jackie Kennedy was frequently photographed carrying the bag (hence the nickname the “Jackie”) often to shield herself from the paparazzi. Never really disappearing from popular bag lists, the Jackie also was reinvented in 1999 and 2009.

This year, the Italian fashion house treated us to yet another reimagined version of the bag. Gucci also officially renamed it ‘Jackie 1961’ in honor of the former first lady.

Why We Love It

The latest revamp intends to ensure that Jackie stays contemporary and relevant. The scaled-down silhouette retains the signature half-moon shape of the bag. The gold piston clasp is the only visible hardware on the bag, giving it an elegant and minimalistic aesthetic. The bag comes with an additional shoulder strap with buckles which can be attached to the bag, rendering it high on versatility. You can wear it in a variety of ways including top handle, under arm, cross-body and shoulder carry.

Sizes

The bag is available in three sizes – medium, small and mini. Clearly, Gucci wants in on the current ‘small is big’ trend. Luckily customers can play Goldilocks and find the size that’s “just right” for them.

Colors and Material

Color options include red, white and black, as well as pastel options like light blue and pink. The bag is also available in the signature GG Supreme Canvas and python print.

The bag interior is a microfiber lining with a suede-like finish. There’s one open pocket and one zipper pocket.
