It’s that time of year! Bag lovers excitedly anticipate the upcoming fall/winter fashion season offerings.
PurseBop takes a look at the bags from Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2021. Prioritizing bright lucid colors, the collection manages to capture the essence of what everybody is needing. Fun! A mix of playful hues feature in Vuitton’s bag offerings, including some wacky color combinations with all the vigour and panache that is definitely deserved given the world’s current climate.
Designed by Louis Vuitton’s legendary creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, the looks of the collection were shot in a regal-looking chateau in the French countryside – can you get any more European chic? The photographs feature actress Stacy Martin as the modeling were captured by none other than Ghesquière himself.
The bag offerings centered around designs from the Spring 2021 ready-to-wear show. Favorites from this collection returned, including the Utility Crossbody and Chroma Key bags. However, Ghesquière pushed the boundaries of color theory, presenting the designs in almost hypnotic combinations of vivid shades with the power to brighten up even the gloomiest of times. Furthermore, they harken back to early ‘00s fashion, which has experienced a resurgence over the past year. The same styles also appeared in matte black finishes for an ultra sleek take on the designs.
New bags also appeared – in the form of crossbody, shoulder and belt bag designs with all the care-free allure of glamorous past decades.
The garments from the collection were a mix of athleisure as the base finished with knee-high heeled boots, ruffled tops and jackets. This mixing embodied the current crossroads many of us are facing between our desire to go out whilst remaining comfortable. And the colorful bags did well to express our longing to make a statement with fashion once more.
Same Style, New Colors
If there’s one thing the House of LV must be commended for, it is for never being afraid to venture into new color palettes. From Takashi Murakami’s iconic Multicolore Monogram, to the house’s plethora of color offerings in shiny Vernis leather, LV isn’t shy. And Vuitton’s latest collection has once again proved colorful, to say the least. The bags we saw on the Spring 2021 ready-to-wear runway were given a new lease of life in eye-popping shades.
The Utility Crossbody bag, which appeared in the spring collection in all-over Monogram canvas, was seen in bright pink fuchsia leather. Indigo LV Monogram motifs adorned one of the front pockets so as to retain the Vuitton branding of the original design. This vibrant and ultra feminine color combination adds a pretty appeal to the style. In full-blown Monogram you wouldn’t be alone in thinking the bag looks a tad too … utilitarian.

The bag’s colorful makeover didn’t stop there. Ghesquière also presented the style in lemon yellow with fuchsia pink Monogram motifs and an ultra sleek matte black leather finish for those who can’t be pried away from the functionality and wearability of a black bag.

It’s unclear whether the Utility Crossbody bags from this collection come with the additional pouch on the design’s thick crossbody strap like the original. If so, the design is yet another sign of the enduring appeal of the multi bag trend. But even if not, we’re still fans!
The Chroma Key bag also debuted on LV’s Spring 2021 ready-to-wear runway. Its relaxed yet elegant tote bag style made it an instant favorite of fashion critics. Available in the Monogram embossed design in cream, bright apple green and metallic silver, the color options weren’t exactly boring. But this new round of takes on the bag for Pre-Fall 2021 goes a step further. As opposed to monochrome designs, this time the bag came in flashy color combinations. Azure blue paired exquisitely with hot pink Monogram motifs. And fuchsia pink provided the backdrop for an indigo colored Monogram pattern. A matte black leather version also made an appearance.
Each featured the same chunky gold chain as the previous releases. Ostentatious gold-tone hardware, particularly the chunky chain strap, has proved popular on bags over the past few seasons, notably Bottega Veneta’s Chain Pouch which boasts an almost cult-like popularity.

Bow Down To The ‘90s Chain Belt in Bag Form
We’re all missing the glamour and grace of decades past right now. But Ghesquière’s accordian style flap bag, complete with a chain strap, provides a glimmer of hope that the beauty of ‘90s ‘oh so chic’ style will reign supreme in the fashion world once more. This flap bag features a long chain wrapped around Martin’s waist in one look. The result is an ultra chic chain belt bag. It’s a sort of fusing together of the ‘90s chain belt, perhaps most commonly associated with Chanel runway looks from the decade, and the ever popular belt bag style. The chain features the classic LV insignia which loosely hangs from the waist in a nonchalant manner. It seems like Vuitton wants to get in on this trend and when has the house ever passed up a branding opportunity?
The style appears in the aforementioned fuchsia pink and indigo color combination with a gold-tone chain, giving us all the glitzy vibes of an early ‘00s teen movie. It’s also spotted in a shade of electric blue finished with lemon yellow Monogram motifs with a silver-tone chain. This color match just screams LA beach party in the early ‘00s where Paris Hilton would likely be in attendance.
There is also a matte black version with a long chain strap suitable for crossbody and over the shoulder wear.

New Design, Same Esteemed Heritage
Ghesquière’s cylindrical bag design plays into the small shoulder bag craze inherent of care-free ‘90s and early ‘00s style. However, the design simultaneously incorporates elements of Louis Vuitton’s rich heritage, such as the classic S-lock closure used for Vuitton’s trunks. For this style, Ghesquière delved into the house’s archives and reimagined the famous Papillon bag from the ‘60s, producing a design with contemporary appeal. Complete with a thick crossbody strap and shorter thin chain strap, the bag appears in black and royal yellow.

Speedy B Is That You?!
It looks like there’s a new Speedy Bandoulière in town! Well, not quite. Size-wise this looks like a Speedy 20 and it features a chain strap, not quite long enough for crossbody wear but perfect for over the shoulder. A large LV Monogram pattern is embossed onto black material akin to a puffer jacket. Martin wears a sleeveless puffer style jacket in the shot resulting in the perfect matchy matchy look for fall.
