Meet the latest Louis Vuitton hot bag: the Coussin (not to be confused with your cousin relatives). Designed by Louis Vuitton’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière, the Coussin debuted on the house’s Spring 2021 ready-to-wear runway. The Coussin already adorns the arms of many A-list celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, Selena Gomez, Laura Harrier and countless more. Countless IG influencer posts also boast this newbie.
Much of the fashion press is hailing the Coussin an ‘It’ bag. While that label may be premature, there’s no denying the design’s obvious appeal. The Coussin is currently sold out in all sizes and colors throughout the US, Canada, UK, and no doubt more countries. So perhaps this latest must-have bag from LV is destined for ‘It’ bag status after all.

Key Details
Constructed from soft lambskin embossed with LV’s signature Monogram pattern, the Coussin has a relaxed feel. Made in accordion style – meaning it’s split into three separate compartments – at first glance it looks almost like three pouches attached together. With an exterior zip closure as well as an inside zip closure for the central compartment, the bag is finished in calfskin leather trim. The Coussin is available in two sizes – the PM and the larger MM.

The bag’s Monogram-embossed lambskin is instantly reminiscent of Vuitton’s Empreinte print, which sees the Monogram pattern imprinted onto leather. However, the house’s Empreinte styles typically feature grained calfskin so the smooth finish of the Coussin’s lambskin sets the bag apart.

In contrast to Vuitton’s popular everyday totes, most notably the Neverfull, the Coussin’s prominent chunky chain gives the bag a statement finish. Named the Edge Chain, it is new for spring 2021 and is engraved with the house’s iconic Monogram motifs. It’s not unlike Louis Vuitton to adorn just about every surface of its newer styles with its classic Monogram in some way due to the continued resurgence of the logomania trend. This chain carry option is perfect for wearing over the shoulder.
On top of that, the Coussin features a thick strap adorned with the house’s name which can be carried over the shoulder or crossbody. Both the new Edge Chain and the strap are removable. The strap is also adjustable. Plus, this design can even be carried oh so chicly under the arm for a perfect fashionista-on-the-go look. Talk about maximum functionality and versatility!
More and more brands are pushing soft, slouchy, unstructured designs, moving away from the ultra structured and mini bags that have dominated the runways, and subsequently our handbag collections, for quite some time now. Looking at the success of designs like Bottega Veneta’s The Pouch and now Louis Vuitton’s Coussin, consumers seem to be fans of functionality focused styles. The Colors
The Coussin’s smaller PM size is available in black, red, cream, silver, LV Motion Green and the larger MM size is available in black and khaki only.

On the Spring 2021 ready-to-wear runway we also saw the Coussin in croc print adorned with Monogram motif studs. However, that variation is not currently for sale on the Louis Vuitton website. This could change and since Vuitton’s Fall 2021 ready-to-wear collection is ripe with croc designs. The croc print version of the Coussin could be in good company if the house chooses to launch it later this year.
