Hermès Birkins We Spotted Strutting on Rodeo Drive

Meet Our Purse Paparazzi

“I make bag contact before eye contact.” (author unknown)

Our Purse Paparazzi, @karenzkloset, takes us down her favorite street in Beverly Hills, California – Rodeo Drive. Shoppers there routinely carry luxury purses from the top brands. Whether running errands, picking up a new handbag, or just going for a stroll, the bag eye candy is always a sweet street treat.

Today the focus is on the vast array of beautiful Hermès Birkins recently spied on Rodeo Drive. Whether on the street or in a boutique, the selection is nothing less than amazing.

In case you’re not familiar, Rodeo Drive is one of the world’s most exclusive luxury destinations. It is the main shopping street in Beverly Hills, California – the small city which is surrounded by the much larger cities of Los Angeles and West Hollywood. Rarely is a  trip to LA complete without a visit to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive.

Of course, given its proximity to Hollywood and the movie and television industry, the small city is itself a character or title in many a production. For example, portrayals include an enclave of rich kids in Beverly Hills 90210, the reality series The Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, the shopping site of rejection and redemption in Pretty Woman, and the setting for the Beverly Hills Cop franchise and much more.

Rodeo Drive itself is famous for its collection of ultra high-end designer boutiques and haute couture fashion. Nearly every top designer can be found on this small stretch of expensive real estate. Much like Madison Avenue in NYC, Michigan Avenue in Chicago, or the Champs-Elysees in Paris, this street is visited by shoppers and non shoppers alike.

Whether one’s passion is fashion, jewelry, cars, or food, they will not be disappointed. The eye candy alone is worth a visit.

Like most American cities during the height of the pandemic, traffic (foot and vehicle) came to a near standstill during the height of the pandemic. However, as the pandemic restrictions began to ease in early 2022, shoppers returned to Rodeo Drive. Mixing locals and tourists, the street once again filled with enthusiastic fashionistas. Some were eager to use and enjoy their luxury bags. Others perhaps craved a new special purse, or other designer product.

On any day of the week you are certain to spot at least one, but usually more, Hermès bags. Below you’ll find some of the beauties spied on daily walks down Rodeo Drive. But first, let’s just understand why the Birkin is so special.

Battle of the Most Beautiful Birkins IRL

The Iconic Birkin. Never will there be a bag so revered, coveted, lusted after, longed for, or recognized as the famous Birkin. Even people unfamiliar with Hermès products know the name. They have seen and/or heard about it in all sorts of media from television, movies, music videos, and social media. And, of course, the Birkin routinely shows up on the arms of celebrities.

Even if you own one (or more) of these beauties, it’s still exciting to spot a Birkin in real life, more so than any other handbag. When you pay attention, you may be surprised how many are right in front of your eyes.

It does not matter how many Hermès Birkins (or quota bags) you own, or how many you have seen in photos, eyeing one in person never gets old. Black and gold Birkins are the most common on  Rodeo Drive. As they are in the rest of the Hermès wild.

As a result, when you see a stunning deep Red Birkin 30 modeled by the owner’s very young daughter (herself sporting a petite Gucci sweater and Gucci flats) you think – adorable right? Or how about these: Magnolia Birkin 25, bright orange Birkin in both 30 and 25 sizes, Vert Criquet Birkin 35, Nata Cargo Birkin 35, or Rose Confetti and Anemone bi-color special order? Have you seen all of these in person? I have! There is a candy store full of bright Birkins walking down the street every day, all you have to do is pay attention.

With eyes peeled while sporting your true fashionista hat, the Birkin’s ability to complement any ensemble becomes evident.   Perhaps surprisingly, the Birkin carriers spotted on Rodeo are not adorned in prim Chanel (or other) suits and heels. Put another way, few, if any, were dressed to the nines.

Rather, on Rodeo Drive, Birkins go with all types of everyday attire. The outfits were as varied as skirts, jeans, shorts, dresses, and leggings, with little of it formal. Designer brands are plentiful. There is a lot of Chanel and Hermès shoes, jewelry and accessories displayed as well as a variety of other designer wear.

And, in case you’re wondering, what was the most common footwear sported . . . it was sneakers. The shoes that were made for walking came from a range of brands like Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, Dior . . . and Nike, and probably many more.

So, above all, as you look at the paparazzi pix, check out all of the shoes, ready to wear, and jewelry worn by these amazing fashionistas. It is the entire outfit that tells the complete story and it starts with the beautiful Birkin.

  • I shop on Rodeo all the time (well not THAT often..LOL) and the B people are standing out to me as being so well dressed. There are so many tourists that usually everyone looks a little too comfy. But those B carriers look fantastic! This is a really fun post. Love seeing bags in the wild.
