When Chanel’s latest collection hits stores, we drop everything to check out the handbags. Technically, it’s been six months since the actual Métiers d’Art fashion show at le19M Atelier in Paris, which makes it a bit difficult for anyone to precisely recall what purses would be in store for our personal collections.
No worries. As the Métiers grouping arrived in stores on June 9, 2022, we’ve been checking out what’s on hand… or on shoulder or crossbody. And it seems like there’s something for everyone – from small and casual to fancy, fancy, fancy.
Moreover, the styles are repeats of what fashionistas know and love. Flaps of all kinds, versions of the 19, 22, Coco Handle, Vanity Cases, and more. On the other hand, the Boy bag included is a messenger style with a rounded base. In fact, it is called the Boy Messenger.
There’s plenty of pink and purple, some navy blue, for those seeking black alternatives. However, Chanel is betting that you like gold hardware this season as it adorns most of the options.
Minis Remain Big Along with the Small
If you like your bags mini – you’ve got lots of options. Nearly every style shows up in this super petite size – flaps, boy messenger, camera and bowling, just to name a few. And if you can’t decide, how about a box of four assorted minis? It includes adorned versions of the Classic, Reissue, Boy, and 19. We can only wish life were like a box of mini Chanels . . .
Classic Flaps
It wouldn’t be a collection without the Classic (or iconic) flap. Shown in light pink and black leather, those are the only “plain” versions on line; of course there will be others in store. The rest are “special,” in tweed or other fabrications, which is not surprising as the purpose of Métiers d’Art is to display talents of Chanel’s artisans. Prices for the truly fancy ones are only available upon request, while the others fall a bit below the classic leather models.
Vanity Cases
Vanity cases show no sign of leaving the Chanel lineup. Versions of the staple style appear in multiples sizes and shapes- some with top openings, others that zip around the body. But, if you’re tired of leather, consider some fuzz . . . shearling that is.
Totes
Yes, Chanel includes some large tote bags. Sure, put your cute minis inside but you’ll have plenty of space for the rest of your stuff. Not everyone can get by with keys, phone, and lipstick lol. Pretty much a Deauville style, there are leather, shearling, and, of course, fabric variations.
A Drop in the Bucket
Not traditionally a Chanel shape, this season includes a bucket style hobo. It features a cinch-able top and although it resembles staples of other brands, this one includes classic Chanel codes, naturally. Part of the strap is leather enlaced chain; the other part is leather decorated with Chanel “coins.” The bag itself is quilted with a prominent gold CC on the front. Truly, there’s no mistaking this for anything but a Coco product.
The Fancy Section
No Chanel handbag collection is complete without expensive evening bags. Typically, prices for these are only available on line. In this case, however, there is a price for one – the black flap with metal sides at $9990. However, the white version does not have a stated price. And, interestingly, unlike most Chanel groupings, there are no minaudières. Hmmm.
That’s our roundup of the bag collection that just arrived (or is arriving) at Chanel boutiques. Let us know which ones you’ve seen. And, even more so, tell us which you can’t wait to get your hands on…
Love, PurseBop
