Louis Vuitton brought its PreFall 2023 show to Seoul, Korea on April 29. Models walked the Jamsugyo Bridge at the Han River along a lit up waterfall. It was the brand’s first women’s pre-fall event in Seoul and likely represents an acknowledgement of the growing importance of the Asian market beyond China.
Moreover, like other brands (looking at you Chanel), Louis Vuitton is tapping into K-Pop celebs seating many in the first row. Additionally the scenography was created by Squid Game director Hwang Dong-Hyuk and Squid Game star Jung Hoyeon opened the show, carrying a red epi leather Alma bag.
Unlike typical collections that take months to hit stores, this one launches May 19th with limited online availability May 5th. Photos have leaked (or been released) showing some of the coming handbags.
For those expecting a shift to quiet luxury, well, based on this collection, not yet. There were plenty of logos, full on branding, and classic recognizable Louis Vuitton styles. When carrying one of these bags, observers will know it’s Louis Vuitton. But, isn’t that what you want, anyway?
As for the all-important handbag models, Louis Vuitton showed classics like the Keepall and Alma, in assorted sizes and colors. Truly these are styles that never go, well, out of style, whether large or small.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Louis Vuitton without its hallmark monogram pattern, seen for example on a large backpack. Additionally, pre-release photos show a gold take on the pattern gracing some of Louis Vuitton’s other favorite styles.
Then there’s this bag, rumored to be called the Atlantis . . . described by some as a tote, by others as a sack. Besides classic monogram, it showed in plain leathers as well.
LV trunk-shaped bags rocked this runway, in multiple styles. Besides the classic petit malle, there’s a newer version with puffed out sides called the side trunk.
Additionally, the collection includes variation on known-styles like the LV Twist and Neo Noe, as well as some more unusual shapes.
Anything in this preview catch your eye? Will you be scrolling online on May 5, trying to nab something from the collection? Or were you hoping for a more quiet luxury kind of showing? Let us know.
