Sometimes there is room for improvement, even in a hallmark luxury handbag style. And even when the maker is Goyard. Renowned for high-end handcrafted luggage, bags, and accessories in its signature Goyardine canvas, the Maison is a go-to for luxury totes. And now, Goyard has taken one of its popular handbag styles and reimagined it – evolving the Saigon bag to the Saigon Tote Bag.

The Saigon Bag design dates back nearly a century. In the late 1930s, a French customer living in Indochina specifically requested a trapezoid-shaped bag with wooden elements that women could easily carry every day. Goyard created the bag incorporating its famous beech color wood elements, trunk nails and metal finishing that takes inspiration from their trunk-making signature, adding a shoulder strap for versatility and later naming it the Saigon bag. Over time, it was officially introduced as one of the brand’s classic silhouettes.

Recently, Goyard decided to modernize this iconic bag, imagining it as a more casual and relaxed version of this more “mature” handbag.
The newest creation is the Saigon Tote Bag. Made of Goyardine canvas (of course) with a heavy mix of calfskin on the exterior, it has less of the wooden elements and metal finishings than the traditional Saigon. There is a wooden bar on the back of the tote. The inside is lined with linen and cotton.

It also features a leather tab and loop for closure and is finished with palladium hardware. Like some other top flap totes, it can be worn open or closed, with its wings flapped in or out.

This spacious bag, with dimensions of 25 x 16 x 34 cm, is perfect for busy, practical women on the go and adds an elevated touch to an outfit.
Priced at $5,000, and available in all Goyard colors, it is now available for order in boutiques.
