Amidst the windswept backdrop of Marseille, Chanel unveiled its Cruise 2024/25 collection on May 2, 2024, at the MAMO, Centre d’art de la Cité radieuse. The brisk Mediterranean breeze echoed the theme of liberation, as Chanel described it, “carried by a wind of freedom.” In this picturesque setting, Chanel designer Virginie Viard’s vision came to life, combining an “underwater reverie with reflections of the sun through embroideries, diving hoods, sequinned jackets, and swimwear.”
The hues of the Mediterranean Sea center the palette of Chanel’s Cruise 2024/25 collection –from the warm sand beige to the myriad of blues reminiscent of the Côte d’Azur, punctuated by seafoam green and sunshine yellow. As expected, textures take center stage; classic bouclé tweed juxtaposed with airy crochet knits for summer days. Two-piece ensembles are prominent – with relaxed micro shorts in crochet and jersey paired with Chanel’s signature tailored jackets.
True to the essence of summer, swimwear is prominent, effortlessly paired with oversized, slouchy open-knit cardigans, evoking a carefree ‘just off the beach’ vibe.
Adding to the allure of the collection are 90s-inspired medallion gold chain belts, evoking a sense of nostalgic French Riviera nostalgia. And what better to shield the Mediterranean sun than Chanel’s raffia boat hats – perhaps another homage to Coco Chanel’s millinery beginnings.

Chanel Cruise 2024/25 Handbags
When it comes to the bags, the focus shifts to miniatures, positioned more as complementary accents rather than functional staples – specifically when it comes to the new CC logo Minaudières. Notably absent is the Classic Flap (excluding one), replaced instead by its younger sister – the Mini Flap, adorned in tweeds, and embellishments. Unexpectedly, the Chanel 22 handbag reigns supreme, showcased predominantly in the coveted mini size in an array of metallic shades, alongside larger offerings in casual jersey.
The coordination between the bags and ensembles, embracing a ‘matchy-matchy’ aesthetic enhances the overall cohesion of each look.
Let’s take a closer look at the handbags. . .
Chanel 22
The Chanel 22 steals the show with its numerous appearances on the Cruise runway. A new crop of Mini 22s caught our eye with an array of fresh metallic shades. From shimmering silver to blue, purple, and seafoam green, the Mini 22 features a distinctive crinkle effect leather that highlights the high-shine metallics finish.
Turning our attention to the larger size, the Chanel 22 adopts a more relaxed vibe Constructed in soft jersey fabric, these larger iterations drape casually. Vibrant hues including seafoam green and a striking citrus lime inject a burst of color.
Classic Flap Bag
The only Classic Double Flap bag to grace the runway was a heavily sequinned fish design, in a sea green with blue detailing.
Mini Flap Bags
Alongside the Chanel 22, the bag style of the season was flap bags – but in this case Minis, not the Classic Flap. From monochromatic timeless tweeds to those with a hint of metallic thread, the runway also showcased a white Mini with a playful plaid design.
Enthusiasts of embellished accessories are in luck. Diamante-studded offerings dazzled, while fully sequined designs sparkled with every step. Among the standout options were high-shine gold and silver sequin variations.
Other Minis
While the Mini Flap bag stole the show, a design, not dissimilar to the square style Wallet on Chain made an appearance. Assembled in all-over gold, this lambskin WOC boasts a matte-like metallic finish, and matching hardware.
Minaudières
Is it a necklace, belt, decoration, or Minaudière? Simply put, it appears to be all of the above. However, we’re inclined to believe this is the latest addition to Chanel’s iconic lineup of highly collectible Minaudières. Mimicking the interlocking CC logo we all know and love, this pared-back Minaudière grabs attention without offering much functionality. Spotted in two sizes on the runway, we’re left wondering if anything beyond lipstick could fit inside the miniature offering. Each ‘bag’ is delicately finished with a crossbody chain and constructed with a pristine white enamel finish.
Chanel Savon De Marseille
A new style unveiled on the Cruise runway is reminiscent of Chanel’s No. 5 bar of soap – could this perhaps be a homage to Marseille’s rich soap-making heritage? Constructed in smooth leather and embossed with the words ‘31 Rue Cambon Paris’ this zip-top bag is adorned with the classic chain shoulder strap. Worn effortlessly on the shoulder, and hand-held on the runway, the bag made its debut in ‘soapy’ shades of olive green, baby pink, and white. After all, who said soap couldn’t be chic?
Larger Bags
Despite the downsized collection, two new larger offerings caught our eye.
No Cruise collection would be complete without a beach-ready bag. Chanel delivers with its latest large crochet creation. Featuring an open-weave design reminiscent of classic raffia woven bags, this chic shoulder bag is adorned with chain detail trim and shoulder straps.
Adding a touch of unconventional charm is another notable design, reminiscent of a tennis bag in its side profile. Crafted from quilted gray supple suede, this slouchy yet refined design is finished with patch pockets on each end embellished with the CC logo. Finished with a chunky chain shoulder strap, and drawstring CC fastening, the bag versatile tote can transition from beach to city.
