Mirror mirror on the wall, what’s the hottest Chanel bag for fall . . . Well, we paraphrase and exaggerate for effect, but you get the drift. And right now, we’re skipping the Classic Flaps, Reissues, and Boys and heading straight to vanity. That is, the Vanity Case.
Vanity Case
You may recall one of the hottest and most instagrammed bags of the Summer of 2019 was in fact a wicker version of the Vanity Case. Dubbed by some a “Lunchbox,” it combined the look of a makeup case with picnic style and classic Chanel leather/chain detailing. With both a handle and a strap, you’ve got your hand, shoulder and (perhaps) cross-body needs covered.
Adorable, right? So cute it might even satisfy that desire for the unattainable and (for some) unaffordable Hermes Picnic Kelly. Then again, maybe not, LOL.
But wicker only scratches the surface of fabrications. For starters – and probably to the surprise of many – the Chanel vanity case line is not new. Versions have existed for years. The style caught our eye when featured in the infamous 2016 airline collection. At that time, it was a PurseBopPick.
Summer is gone (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) and with it Chanel has a new group of Vanity Cases for both cruise and fall/winter. Again, shape, size and fabrication variations abound. There are two basic sizes, rectangular and conical shapes, and even taller versus shorter styles. You’ll find leather, rattan, denim, and PVC. All are unmistakably Chanel, with a prominent double CC logo.
This is a smaller size purse, even in the non-small size. Accordingly, it has a smaller-size price, at least compared to the Chanel Classic Flaps, Reissues and Boys. Most Vanity Cases run in the $3200-4700 range.

A Luminous Option
Likely the most eye-catching are the iridescent PVC versions. That’s the focus of this article.
The PVC iterations go a bit extra . . . with two clochettes. One contains a large CC logo lock and the other a key. Inside, you’ll find a pocket section with a zippered pocket within.
As you can see, the closure is a 3/4 around zipper. The bag thus opens by separating front from back, as shown in this picture.
More Vanity Choices
In case neither iridescent nor PVC reflects your taste, here’s a look at some of the other options.
Like the iridescent models, this leather one includes the covered lock and key attachments. It opens much like a jewelry box—flat side down. It also comes in a regular and small size. Interestingly, although the small size is the same size as the iridescent version, this one sits more horizontally. Go figure!
As you’ll see, however, there’s quite a bit of variation in the vanity case designs.
Has vanity got the better of you? Will you be buying one of these? Let us know which one.
