Netflix’s The Crown is back for its sixth and final season. The first episode has a solemn start with the depiction of the fatal crash that killed Dodi Fayed and Princess Diana, as they were being chased down by paparazzi in Paris. Before delving deeper into the aftermath, viewers are taken on a journey back in time, to see the growth of the friendship and love between the two, and the outfits of one fashionable Diana.
Lady Diana was dubbed the “princess of the people” and many would also call her the then reigning queen of fashion. Her chic, understated style continues to inspire new generations of fashion fanatics. We’ve put together a list of the pieces we spotted in part one of the newest season of The Crown, some of which are still available today. It all speaks volumes about Diana’s enduring fashion legacy.
Lady Dior Medium White
What we all know as the Lady Dior was once known by a different name. Vogue wrote that it was originally called the Chouchou, and was gifted to Diana by the First Lady of France in 1995. It must have been love at first sight, because the princess was rarely seen sans the purse. In reality her most worn piece was a black lambskin medium Lady Dior, though she was also seen carrying patent and Croc renditions of the style. It was officially renamed the Lady Dior in 1996, and remains one of the House’s most notable designs.
The Lady Dior – 25 Years and Counting
Lady Diana also sported a Lady Dior at the Met Gala – the only time she attended the event. An extra special outing called for an extraordinary purse, and in this case it was a blue satin mini Lady Dior handbag. Recently, a version of this precise bag was reissued and retailed for about $6,300.

Versace Oval Sunglasses
In real life, Princess Diana was often seen sporting black sunglasses to shield her from the sea of paparazzi camera flashes. Though it’s difficult to confirm whether this exact pair was worn by her, she was close friends with Gianni Versace, and so on many occasions was seen wearing Versace designs.
Givenchy Bijoux Pearl Earrings
In both reel life and real life, Lady Diana would almost exclusively wear gold hardware, and chunky earrings were a part of every look. Even while carrying out her humanitarian work in far corners of the globe, the royal would never be seen without earrings to complete her casual look.
Cartier Tank Louis Cartier
Another jewelry staple for Lady Diana was a timepiece. She alternated between a few Cartier and Patek Philippe pieces, however was most often seen wearing a Tank Louis Cartier with a black leather strap.
Vogue wrote that it was believed to have been a gift from her father. She would wear this for humanitarian outings where it wouldn’t have been appropriate to wear her other favorite piece, a gold Cartier Tank Française.
Tod’s Di Bag in Off-White
Tod’s is a lesser known brand to many, but one of Diana’s favorite handbags was a natural brown tone bag. A truly functional handbag, it gained popularity among modern women in the 1990s. Soon after Diana passed away in 1997, Tod’s renamed it the Di Bag in her honor. The version now available was reimaged by creative director Walter Chiapponi, who has made the silhouette and functionality more unisex.

In season 6 of the crown, episode 3, Diana wears a gold cigar band with channel set diamonds. It is very clearly seen in the scene where she talks to William and Harry on the phone. Any idea who makes that ring? I dont think it was based on any Diana owned but was just a film prop. Thank you.
