Chanel Price Increase March 2023
You asked… so we are sharing. The PurseBop mailbox has been deluged with requests and questions about Chanel handbag pricing. Are they getting more expensive? Which bags? When? And so on.
As usual, Chanel itself remains tightlipped. Ask virtually any sales associate and they proclaim ignorance… saying they only learn at the last moment.

So here’s what we know.
With last week’s drop of the Spring Summer 2023 collection into stores and the website, the buzz grew even louder. Not infrequently, price hikes accompany new seasons. Sometimes the hikes are subtle, like a new fabrication of a known bag costs a bit more. Other times, as has happened often since 2019, there’s just a massive increase across the board on something as desired as classic flaps.
Adding to speculation is that last week, just after the Spring Summer 2023 pre-collection dropped, suddenly prices (for everything) disappeared from the Chanel website. For days. Now, often that indicates that a price increase is coming. We all hold our breath when the numbers reappear on the screen.
When prices did return on line, we saw something interesting… and actually reassuring. Prices on the classic flaps had NOT changed. What does that mean? Well, for the moment, those of you in the United States looking to buy a classic Chanel flap are safe, price wise, at least for today. Maybe even tomorrow. February, well it remains to be seen.
But as of today, the $8800 medium Classic remains $8800. Does this mean it won’t change? Of course not. The last time Chanel raised U.S. prices on its hallmark model was November 2021. As we and our bank accounts recall, since October 2019, through multiple hikes, the cost of the bag spiked 52% from $5800.
There are reports of some seasonal styles increasing in the newest collection, including re-tagged prices. However, in an abundance of caution, it’s important to note that information on this has been inconsistent, as the styles with a possible increase don’t have an identical history.

Bottom line… if you’re truly worried about a price hike, it wouldn’t hurt to purchase now. You never know what tomorrow or next month will bring. Just remember – Chanel U.S. prices on the Classic Flap haven’t increased in 14 months. You do the math.
