I agree with both replies Hermes Birkins and Kelly bags are not as hard to come by via second hand market place. And LV had definitely seen a surge as a true LV lover I can appreciate the fact that they want to cater to a certain clientele with some of the leather bags but I believe Monogram will always be a driving force behinds sells for the house making them not that exclusive.

Even though Hermes may try for exclusivity I don’t see Hermes is really as exclusive. A lot of people have H bags and getting a Birkin or Kelly is not that hard given the secondary market. They are still luxury goods but the company has not maintained its super rare hard to attain position simply because of earning higher revenues. Surely they sell a lot more bags now than in the past. Having said that I still love their products so as ongoing as they maintain their luxury quality it’ s all good

I found it interesting/curious that the author of the Business of Fashion article which highlighted success of Louis Vuitton in moving to more exclusive designs, is the “LVMH chaired professor of marketing at ESSEC Business School.” LVMH owns several fashion houses in addition to LV including Celine, Loewe, Fendi, Dior and Givenchy, to name a few luxury handbag designers. In other words, is this an LVMH pitch piece or actual research? Hmmm.

Second, unlike the Baghunter, this author does not distinguish between luxury and super-luxury, which I thought was an interesting concept and set Hermes high atop the purse pyramid.
