Dior is set to launch a limited edition Vespa with Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio.
The Vespa 946 Christian Dior will go on sale in Spring 2021 in Dior boutiques globally and a selection of Piaggio’s Motoplex stores.
The vehicle will blend style and craftsmanship and feature the iconic Dior Oblique motif on the saddle. Matching accessories, including a helmet and luggage case specifically designed to fit securely on the luggage rack, will be available exclusively in Dior boutiques.
Designed by the house’s creative director of women’s collections Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s answer to fashionable travel is an updated version of a 2012 Piaggio scooter, however of course more stylish!
“For me, Vespa is linked to my city, Rome,” the designer told WWD.
This swanky new scooter could be just what a post COVID-19 world needs. In a joint statement the companies expressed how the new release was centred around the spirit of freedom and movement.
The two collaborating brands have somewhat of a shared history. Dior opened its first store in Paris in 1946 and Vespa launched in Italy that same year. Speaking to WWD, Piaggio’s chief of product strategy Michele Colaninno, explained, “This new Vespa 946 celebrates that anniversary and honours our heritage.”
