Don’t Tell PurseBop

Please don’t tell PurseBop… that my first Birkin is still in the box untouched and unused. For precisely one year my much-desired 2016 B30 Gris Mouette has been secretly lying in wait, hidden under hanging clothes and atop shoes.  I wish I could explain why.

Let me first say that I have no regrets in making this my virgin B. I have rejected Gold and Black Birkins in 30 and 35 without looking back.  They weren’t “the one.” Frankly, for me, my black Chanel GST with gold hardware works anywhere Black B would.  And classic gold isn’t my color.

My Miss GM is beautiful.  She looks (or would look) great with my black, white, gray and navy rainbow of attire.  As winter approaches, she’s a perfect companion for a gray shearling, black puffer and houndstooth cloth coat.

So, what’s the problem? Hmmm. I think I’m afraid.

Afraid to carry her.  What if I don’t love using her? She might be too big or too small.  Perhaps I won’t be comfortable with a non-shoulder bag.

Afraid to be judged – and face those who question my judgment in spending so much money on a bag, even a Birkin.  Close friends have already made that comment when I confessed my purchase. People in my lovely town just don’t do that.  But I did.

Afraid to ruin her – I’m not the most careful.  I get caught in rain and snow and put my bag on the ground (oh, the horror).

Afraid to admit she’s not the only unused purse in the house.  Let’s not even go there . . .

I have received unsolicited offers for her.  I have entertained none. I still want the divine Miss GM.  I just can’t seem to use her.
