11 Hermès Bags Stolen in Olympics Robbery

A high-profile theft occurred on a TGV train traveling from Nice to Paris on Saturday, July 27. The victim, identified as the sister-in-law of the Emir of Qatar by Le Parisien, discovered that eleven luxury Hermès bags had been stolen from her during the journey.

The theft was believed to have taken place between 12:00 PM and 1:40 PM. The bags reportedly contained “personal effects of great value,” according to police sources cited by Le Parisien.

Upon realizing the theft, the train was stopped at Toulon station for about twenty minutes to conduct a search. However, neither the eleven bags nor the thieves were found. The Qatar royal family member was traveling with her household employee at the time of the incident.

An investigation has been opened and assigned to the Toulon National Police Circonscription (CPN). As of Sunday, July 28, the investigation was ongoing.

The SNCF, France’s national railway operator, clarified its policy with Le Parisien, stating:

“The SNCF is not responsible in the event of loss or theft. It is the passenger’s sole responsibility to monitor their baggage.”
