Up Close and Personal with the Hermès Geta Bag

The east-west handbag trend remains dominant as we enter 2025, and Hermès continues to master the art of elongating its silhouettes. The brand revisited Jean-Paul Gaultier’s iconic Shoulder Birkin from 2004 in its Spring-Summer 2024 collection, highlighting its talent for reimagining classics. Then there are the Kelly Elan and Constance Elan – sleek, chic east-west interpretations that have become fan favorites.

Now, Hermès turns its focus to a lesser-known gem – the Geta. First introduced in 2022, the Geta made a quiet but confident statement with its IYKYK appeal, offering a minimalist alternative to the instantly recognizable Constance. Today, the Geta transforms. Its boxy, compact shape has been reimagined in a stretched, elongated form – the Geta Elan.

This new silhouette expands Hermès’ growing collection of east-west designs, offering a fresh perspective on its understated, modern aesthetic. Notably, it appears the new Geta Elan will also feature an adjustable leather shoulder strap, rather than the original design’s canvas strap. While it hasn’t hit boutique shelves yet, we anticipate the Geta Elan to make its debut in 2025.

Take a look at the newest Hermès bag creation. Called the Geta, it is inspired by Japanese wooden platform sandals. This compact, symmetrical messenger bag doesn’t have the typical feet of other Hermès bags. Rather, the base is an elongated “H” reminiscent of the classic Hermès Constance closure. The bag itself is built like a small box, closing with a click, and featuring a canvas adjustable strap. For now, it’s been shown in Mysore Goatskin. Definitely a unisex vibe.

Priced at 4250 euros.
