How Chanel Accidentally Gave Away a $20K Bag

In a surprising twist during her Paris shopping spree, Australian influencer Kathryn Tan received a $20,000 Chanel So Black Classic Flap bag by mistake.

Kathryn, who had initially intended to buy shoes and maybe some jewelry, had placed the pricey bag on hold to consider her options. But when she returned to her apartment and opened her shopping bag, Kathryn received the shock of her life when she discovered the Classic Flap along with her new Chanel heels. Despite the obvious temptation of keeping such an extravagant item, she chose to return the bag the following day.

In an interview with FEMAIL, Kathryn explained her reasoning:

‘To be completely honest, the thought [of keeping it] would cross any person’s mind. I get the comments on my video and don’t blame people for telling me to keep the bag. However, I don’t think I’d be able to sleep at night knowing I could have jeopardised the sales assistant’s job for his mistake. He was so lovely and patient with me that day and spent over two hours assisting us. Even if he didn’t suffer any consequences, it just didn’t feel morally correct to keep the bag nor did I want any issues with Chanel down the line.’

The sales assistant was reportedly relieved and grateful when Kathryn returned the bag, expressing his appreciation for her honesty. The incident stirred a mix of reactions, with some praising Kathryn’s integrity and others sharing their own experiences of similar mix-ups.

Kathryn took to TikTok to share the mix-up, and the comments went wild. One commenter wrote, “Good karma always comes around. Good job!” while another added, “I’m very glad to hear that you will return it. It’s not about how much the bag costs, it’s your integrity that matters.”
