How to care for white or light colored leather bags?

Anyone have any tips for how to care for white or light colored leather bags? I know caution is probably key, but after wear and tear how do you to treat yours? Thinking about buying more light bags for spring and summer, so any advice would be wonderful

Another thing to add is that white especially (probably other light colors as well?) can oxidize with sun (and moon?) exposure… so it WILL YELLOW over time. This is my biggest fear more than staining etc, because once it happens it is irreversible, and I am not even sure if it is entirely preventable… However, to delay (hopefully prevent!) this, I’ve been advised to keep the bag in its dustbag at all times when not in use… For extra precaution I also hide it deep in my closet where it is pitch black and gets no light exposure whatsoever. So no suntanning for my light colored bags LOL!!!!

Such a good question. I use a good leather cleaner. (A cleaner that can be bought at a shoe store or a cleaner that is used for light colored leather sneakers can work in some instances). Keep light colored handbags AWAY from jeans and anything that will transfer color onto the bag.

Depending on what type of leather/bag, I find meltonian all purpose cleaner and conditioner or the lexol leather ph wipes works well for me. But always test on a small unnoticeable area first just in case.

yes I’ve heard saddle soap words well. However, cleaning bags is a pretty strenous process, and can quickly lead to failure if you’re doing it the wrong way. If the damage looks too bad take it into a professional leather cleaner. There may be a process for stain proofing a bag if you’re really worried? But to protect the bag in general, the best way is to probably just be really careful LOL

My bags are all darker colors, so I can’t guarantee the tip, but I’ve heard that saddle soap is great for cleaning white and light colored leather.
