Meet Louis Vuitton's 'Millionaire' Speedy

Pharrell Williams stood out at Paris Men’s 2024 Summer fashion week well beyond his show-stopping debut at Louis Vuitton on June 20 (Read: Pharrell’s Debut at Louis Vuitton’s Men’s 2024 Spring Summer: A Look at the LoVers Bags). Not surprisingly, he hit the shows of sister brands under the LVMH umbrella. The singer (and designer) was spotted en route to the front row seats at the highly anticipated Dior SS24 presentation by Kim Jones, and to Loewe’s runway show. Pharrell struck a pose at Loewe as his bodyguard looked on, all the while clutching a strikingly vibrant bag that was impossible to overlook!

Arguably, the standout piece of his hotly anticipated debut at Louis Vuitton is the Speedy. However, this Speedy is far from ordinary. Reportedly, this individual Speedy bag is worth an eye-watering $1 million.

Soon after its debut on the runway, the bag was fittingly dubbed the ‘Millionaire’ Speedy on social media. So what makes this LV bag worth the staggering $1 million price tag?

First things first, anything bearing the timeless Louis Vuitton brand name is bound to come with a fairly hefty price tag. But at one million dollars this adds two or so zeros to (or five hundred times) a typical bag price. However, this LV Speedy differs from the rest of the collection in many ways.

Constructed from crocodile leather, the ‘Millionaire’ Speedy is meticulously crafted in one of Louis Vuitton’s specialized exotic leather ateliers. It has been reported that the iconic Monogram pattern is painted manually onto the surface of the crocodile leather – totaling around 65 hours of work. All the while, ateliers ensure that the suppleness of the crocodile leather is maintained by using a specific strengthening technique between the scales.

Not only will you find exotic leathers on the ‘Millionaire’ Speedy, but there’s plenty of gold! In addition to a typical Vachetta leather shoulder strap, you will find an all-new chunky gold chain. Gold-tone you ask? 18K gold in fact! In addition, this bag is completed with a fully functioning 18K gold zipper – a first for Louis Vuitton. The development of these luxurious gold components alone reportedly took two months. Finally, each piece was painstakingly crafted, polished, and expertly engraved by LV’s jewelers. And the collaboration with LV’s high jewelers doesn’t stop there…The ‘Millionaire’ Speedy wouldn’t quite live up to its name without its show-stopping diamond-encrusted iconic LV padlock.

Pharrell’s ultra-luxe vision for the Speedy doesn’t end there. If you thought the bag was sold alone, you’d be wrong. Accompanying this extravagant Speedy is a classic Louis Vuitton presentation trunk. Once again, there’s a Pharrell twist! The trunk is crafted in a combination of classic Monogram canvas, as well as a plexi Monogram. It has been reported that lucky buyers of this millionaire masterpiece will also receive a pair of Millionaires sunglasses – a nod to Pharrell Williams’ first collaboration with Louis Vuitton.
