Is 27 the magic number…  that will satisfy the never-ending demand for Hermès Birkins and Kellys? Hermès just announced plans to build its 27th workshop in France as it “continues to expand its production capacity.”  The Maroquinerie de Colombelles is part of the new tenth regional artisanal hub for Hermès leather goods, expected to open in 2028.

According to Hermès, the Maroquinerie de Colombelles will employ 260 artisans. These new craftspeople will be trained by current Hermès artisans and the École Hermès des savor-faire, which the French Ministry of Education has recognized as an official apprenticeship training center.

It’s safe to say, at least for now, that Hermès isn’t shifting its leather production to the United States to avoid tariffs. The question is: will there finally be enough for all of us?
