It has happened to the most organized of us, checking out of a hotel room only to discover that we’ve forgotten something. If you’re lucky, it happens after you’ve turned in the key (or have been virtually locked out) but before you depart the hotel. Hopefully, it was something unimportant or inexpensive. Of course, you could face that moment of panic in the plane, train, or automobile when you realize you didn’t empty the safe leaving your valuables inside. Equally upsetting is when you realize your laptop is sitting on a desk, your suit hanging in the closet, or an entire toiletry bag resting in the bathroom.

But, have you ever forgotten a Hermès bag? At least one person has. A recent survey of 400 hotels worldwide by hotels.com asked what types of items have been left behind by guests. Not surprisingly, the list generated included passports, dirty laundry, chargers, and makeup.
Other “odd” items were reported as well, including a car tire and construction pipes. Hotel employees discovered a chick and a lizard, both of which were returned to the owners.
Listed as the most expensive items forgotten were the Birkin (though there’s no info on size, leather, or color), a Rolex, and a $6 million watch.
