It is well-documented that I want a K32, but does that mean I should turn down Bs (of which I have none)? I’m still not sure and I did. I was offered three Bs: gold with GHW in 30 and 35 and black 35 with PHW. I tried to love the gold in 30 – I fear 35 is just too heavy for my aging body – but I couldn’t. And I didn’t. It is not me. Truthfully, I haven’t regretted leaving him (?) at his H home. However, I kick myself daily for not biting the bullet and taking the weighty black. What should I have done? What would you do?

Wow, what an offer from H. You made the right decision for your lifestyle and there is nothing wrong. I do not own any B. or K but given the option I would have chosen the Gold with GHW in size 30. Have a great day @thereal_mrsforde

I think you made the right choice – @styledguys comment below is exactly how I would have worded it! ???

I think you should wait for what you want and not settle for something that in the end wouldn’t work. Believe me I know the struggle but I think it will pay off in the end!

I turned Down 3 before I got the color I wanted . I love it to bits . The right color and size is very important . I believe in going for what you want or love ! Needs change with phase of life but if in the present if you don’t see the bag defining you it’s a waste . I was very clear about my likes and was lucky that my SA found the one for me , my other Hermes buys were much easier to find for sure

what a gorgeous Birkin Ananya!!! thank you for sharing this beauty with us :)
-
Thanks Pati !
-
out of curiously Ananya, what did you turn down?
-
A rose jaipur in 35 , another one in either gris or etoupe , and shiny emerald green croc in 35 ( i would have jumped on amethyst croc)

I think we should buy the bag we want. Before it is really hard for me to narrow down what I want. But after all now I have all my birkin in neutral colour like Black and Gold colour. And keep my Kelly in bright colour like RT and Orange .. just dont give up. Your dream bag will come very soon ?

I really want to try to be a bit more discerning as my collection grows. When I look at people’s collections on Instagram and wonder why I don’t have some of the colors that they do, the answer is maybe I could have if I’d been more patient!

I admit it’s really hard, but I have definitely turned down bags because they weren’t the right size, leather or HW for me. Don’t worry maura!! Your perfect bag will be yours eventually! Don’t settle because there will always be a part of you wanting something different. And it is a hefty price to pay for a maybe…

I can’t wait till I get to the position that I need to turn down bags because they are not right, LOL! I feel like everything has a place in my collection ?. But having said that I have turned down a K35 in gold togo (way to big for my liking), and a gorgeous amethyst croc B35 (it was stunning, but not in my spending limits for the moment). I am in LOVE with bamboo and there is a jypsiere 28 sitting here in Chicago but I don’t think I would use it except running to whole foods and the gym. I love it on others, but not sure how it fits into my summer wardrobe and style. I love dresses like you :) Although fashion is changing and designer sneakers and dresses are all the rage in Europe… so maybe a jypsiere?
-
Definitely agree, PurseBop! Turning down one is perfectly fine because every H purchase matters and a bag should be someone’s “I’m obsessed with this” buy. I am also hopelessly devoted to finding a Bamboo Kelly (B’s aren’t my thing) in swift or Epsom. This is impossible, so far I have found. But I adore my jypsiere and if there’s one just chilling at the Chicago H, I would seriously contemplate that for your first J bag and in one of the top five colors H has ever done. I surprisingly wear my J way more than I ever thought! ????
-
far be it from me to discourage anyone from a jypsiere (or evelyne) especially in bamboo. I love me a cross body – my evelyne is well-loved

like I said on the post, I think this is what the H strategy is all about… technically it´s difficult to come across a Birkin, so whenever one finally comes along, you think it´s better to snatch it even if it´s not the ONE, rather than regret it later because you think no other will come your way and you´ll be left “Birkinless” forever…so it´s a win win for H, but what about you? At first you may be extremely happy because you finally got your first B, but then, after the thrill is gone, you´ll restart the journey of “in search of the perfect B”, or Kelly in your case, because you feel yours is just not right, and you´re back to ground zero (and must I say, with many zeros less $$ on your bank account)… so I think you did well Maura, I´m sure the perfect B or K will come along and you won´t have second thoughts about it… it´s all a matter of patience and faith :)

Interesting question my dear, I had similar situation last year, I was vacationing on St.Barth and really was hopping to score a Bamboo Kelly 32 or 28 at that time , but unfortunately they didn’t have K in that color, I was offered K in another color which I wasn’t to crazy about it as well as Bamboo Birkin 35 with PHW I ended up getting this beauty , I couldn’t say no, the color is just so pretty, no regrets there, I think I made a right choice . It’s just impossible to say No!

I can certainly see why that B went home with you – the color is spectacular!
-
what a gorgeous bag Yanina, thank you for sharing it with us :)
-
this is my dream color in a B or K ?. It is the most incredibly saturated green ever! I am drooling :)

I think you made the right decision dear. I have been put in this situation a few times and have learned from my mistakes. I do think that H can make us all crazy sometimes though, but the most important thing to think of when making your decision is to follow your heart. There are some that I kind of wish I would have looked into further, but waiting for the right bag has its advantages. (especially with all the quotas these days) Stay Strong and I hope you get exactly what you want!

agreed mrslulu3 ;)

Thank you mrslulu3. It would be easier to pass if I knew that my bag was around the corner. But I must say I am tired of the costly mistakes – those things I had to have but could never really find a way to use.

an hermes is not a cheap buy, so you have to obsoletely love the size and color to get one. I had to turn down an offer once and had to wait a couple of years before i even got close enough to the whiff of another birkin. It’s ridiculous! But it well worth the wait! I’m sure your K32 will come your way soon! Good luck!!~

I think if you don’t feel like you absolutely love it you made the right decision.
But I turned down a few birkins and Kellys I do regret. It was a gold Togo 35 with gold hardware and a black Togo with gold hardware… My dream bags right now. At the time I didn’t think it was for me, what was I thinking?! It’s so me!

That’s how i feel about the black – how idiotic!

I think you made the correct choice. What is the point in purchasing something you do not completely love? Or something that you love but doesn’t work with your lifestyle? There are rare exceptions of course, but I don’t think this was one :)
It’s better to wait for something that you will cherish for many years.

Thanks styledguy. I have this funny feeling that I’m going to end up with the black B35, if not as my first then sometime later!

@larkie this comment is for you:
I now understand those predicaments you would so often reference when contemplating those special Chanel pieces that would tempt/haunt us. You would share the need to hold out for that special H piece, while I was all over the latest Chanel runway miniauderie.
I am feeling those ‘negotiations’ within now ?, but quite honestly a couple of years ago I was unable to completely empathize. It’s a tough place to be, I always will LOVE my special Chanel pieces and crave many more, but this new found H hunger sets in all kinds of confusions…

Dear Maura, your first H bag is about as close to my heart, as my own can get. We have shared numerous conversations and visited the mothership together. I remember all to well the excitement I felt sitting on my red plush chair in my bedroom negotiating this GOLDILOCKS dilemma with you. We tried to play out every angle of possibilities. I know how you tried to love the B30, but the color was just not you. The black you loved, but too heavy. And the truth is your heart aches for a Kelly. The choice and decision is different for each and every individual & for you, none of the options presented were “just right”. So have no fear my friend, that day will come & we all will celebrate that moment with you… I want your first to be as joyous & memorable as mine…
It will indeed be a very special moment & beautifully documented here on the pages of PurseBop ?
(I just have to keep you from buying ‘substitutes’ till then!)
XO?

-
thank you PurseBop – you were the only person I called to discuss the dilemma because I knew you’d understand. And please help me stay focused (in other words, no substitutions).

Oh my! What a dilemma! There have been 2 times I didn’t take a B home.. The first time was the first B I was ever offered – a 30cm RC PHW B and I turned it down because I was only interested in GHW and was not in a financial position to take home a B unless I truly loved it.. Given another chance now, I’d take it in heartbeat! I am loyal to GHW but simply wouldn’t be able to turn down a 30cm B because it’s the most popular size (here in Asia) and therefore an investment… The second time was because my SIL & I were offered 3 B’s but only had enough passports to take home 2! Leaving that third one behind was heartbreaking but really, we were incredibly lucky to both have taken 1 home.
I think that once you come across a bag you truly love, you won’t give that missed one a second thought. However, we all know that that opportunity is seldom common in the H world so I understand the regret! Personally, I don’t think I’d ever miss an opportunity to purchase a B or K in a classic or popular color, even if I don’t love it… Simply because of the nature of bag procurement here. That being said, most of the time, my financial situation means I have to really hold out for something I love and nothing beats that truly heart soaring feeling you get when the dust bag is pulled down and reveals a color, size & hardware combo you truly love :) hope you have your heart soaring moment soon that makes up for your regret! xx

No regrets, Maura. At this price point, everything has to be just right to bring home a B or a K that you will keep for a good long time and use. I took the first B35 I was ever offered (in spite of the voice inside my head screaming “it’s too big for you”) because I figured if hell had indeed frozen over, I was walking into the cold with a Birkin on my arm, haha! Now with a few more H bags in my closet, I advise every first time B/K buyer to resist the siren’s call and wait for the right one. You will know it when you see it.
-
So beautifully shared AY_X, I LOVE how you say, “nothing beats that truly heart soaring feeling you get when the dust bag is pulled down and reveals a color, size & hardware combo you truly love :) ” What a moment that is… XO
-
Thank you AY_X and Larkie. I wouldn’t be questioning the decision if I didn’t have to wait without any certainty “my bag” will one day arrive. It does kind of feel like waiting for your prince to come . . .
