US Border Officials Seize $7 million in Counterfeit Watches, Jewelery

Update: Well here’s another incident to add to the basket. A shipment seized in Louisville contained thousands (yes- you read that right, THOUSANDS) of counterfeit designer earrings. From Chanel to Louis Vuitton and everything in between, these sparklers would cost you a pretty penny had they been real. The estimated authentic value of these hoops, studs and danglers? Approximately $3.5 million.

Field operations director, LaFonda Sutton-Burke says “this just goes to show you how criminals are using express consignment facilities to ship their items to unsuspecting consumers damaging our economy.”

Another day, another bust. Early this month, US Customs & Border Patrol (CBP) uncovered and seized a shipment of counterfeit watches at the border. The packages contained products from brands like Rolex and Cartier, and physically numbered into the hundreds. Specifically- 800 Cartier bracelets and 13 Rolex watches in all, separated between three shipments.

What’s more is the estimated value of the goods- a whopping $7 million had they been real. This is not the first time such an occurrence has transpired at the border. CBP has issued several statements, this year alone, on recent seizures involving counterfeit goods- specifically watches.

Officials say the are seeing a rise in the sale of counterfeit goods, given an increase in the use of e-commerce platforms by consumers and businesses alike. As always, they advise exercising heightened caution and care when shopping online.
