PurseBop’s recent article on the Birkin Premium caught the attention of the Wall Street Journal. It featured our years-long data on how the value of the Hermès Birkin as compared to Chanel’s medium Classic Flap declined in recent years as Chanel spiked its prices, while Hermès prices were relatively stable, at least until the last couple of years.
Citing PurseBop founder Monika Arora, the WSJ writes:
“The “Birkin premium”—the price difference between the Hermès bag and its closest competitor, the Chanel Classic Flap in medium—shrank from 70% in 2019 to 2% last year, according to PurseBop founder Monika Arora.”
The situation, however, is dynamic. As described in the PurseBop article, if and when Chanel increases its prices for the Classic Flap, the Birkin Premium could disappear.
