When the Book Doesn't Fit the Bag

Recently Vanity Fair published an article with an adorable concept: pairing a selection of must-read books with must-have bags. As both a book and bag lover myself, I wished I’d thought of it. Props to the magazine for this one…

Until I read the piece. Or should I say… looked at the pictures. I actually didn’t read the article or even note the recommended books. What struck me was that of the nine book/bag pairings, only two (maybe three) books actually fit in the identified handbag. Just by way of example, my personal favorite Chanel purse for Spring/Summer 2021 – the metal evening flap priced without posted price (and we know what that means – $$$$$$) – matched with a full-size hard cover entitled “Popisho” by Leone Ross. In the photo, the petite bag sits atop the much larger book!

Two more examples feature hot and popular Dior and Celine bags, with the same issue:

Chuckling to myself at the irony and error, I couldn’t help thinking: you know what would work, with all nine books at the same time? My Dior Book tote! Read: Ode to the Dior Book Tote

Love to hear your thoughts about this, as well as what bag you’d use to carry your favorite book(s).
