The long-rumored Chanel price hikes have finally hit. Ranging from 2.8% to 8.3% these spikes move the Chanel Classic flap line further over the $10,000 line.
Just look at the Chanel Medium Classic Flap, which Chanel has reverted to labeling the 11.12. It now lists at $10,800 (up 5.8% or $600 from $10,200), putting it $600 less than the Hermès Birkin 25 in Togo, for those of you wondering how they compare. The price of the Chanel Jumbo Flap increased 6.3%, taking it to $11,700 from $11,000, and Classic Maxi Flap rose $800 to $12,300.

To be fair, Chanel warned us price hikes were on the way. In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily released around the time of Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2024 show, Chanel President of Fashion said there would be an increase “fairly soon,” necessary to cover Chanel’s costs.

If you recall, the last time Chanel increased prices in the United States, in March 2023, the price for the Medium Classic flap rose to $10,200. It was a 16% hike from $8,800 and officially took the cost into five-figure land. Approaching Hermès territory but not quite hitting it.

While Hermès customers were surprised and dismayed by the size of Hermès’ January 2 price increases – a far cry from the formerly typical 1-3% annual increase – the latest by Chanel, in the US and EU are in a similar range. The underlying message may be that the cost to produce these designer bags has risen about 6% generally.

So, before you scroll to the full listing of new numbers below, you might want to have a seat and protect yourself from some sticker shock. No doubt even the most ardent Chanel fans will be wondering “is Chanel worth it?” And the fashion debate of “which would you rather” between Hermès and Chanel, is sure to rage on.

Interestingly, while some of Chanel’s bag prices have remained untouched by the latest hikes, others haven’t been so fortunate. US fans of the Chanel 22 and Classic Wallet on Chain (WOC) can breathe a sigh of relief, as their price remains steady. In the UK, the mini rectangle flap price rose €250. However, Chanel’s other sought-after lines, such as the 19, Trendy, Boy, and 2.55, have all been affected by the recent increases.
