Question:
When you go to the Hermès stores and there’s bags on the display that are display pieces only – is that an indicator for what they do actually have available/in stock in store?
Dear Hermès Bags on Display:
Everyone always wonders about the beautiful Hermès bags on display in certain boutiques. Clearly, all boutiques have bags available even when they say they do not. Bags on display cannot be sold while on display, but when the display is changed presumably the following month, those bags then go into the inventory of that store to be offered and sold.
As with most things at Hermès, the display bags are a mystery. It is always difficult to say what or how many bags a boutique has available for sale at any one time. Only the SA’s, Managers and Store Director know for sure. Deliveries are sporadic and the inventory has not been as plentiful as in years past.
Unfortunately, our best advice is to enjoy the eye candy, ask your SA when or how often your store changes their display bags, and put the bag of your choice on your wishlist.
Good luck and happy shopping.

“and the inventory has not been as plentiful as in years past. ”
That is completely incorrect.
Twenty years ago Hermes employed approximately 600 craftsman, today they employ more than 3,000 in multiple workshops spread around France.
If you’re going to write blog posts about Hermès you should at least attempt to be truthful rather than playing into their publicity propaganda.
