Question:
May I know how Novillo and Clemence leather compare to Togo leather? Is it suitable for a Birkin?
Novillo leather was introduced by Hermès in 2015. It is a very smooth leather with fine grains that absorbs color really well. Its grains are much smaller than either Clemence or Togo leather and it has been compared to Evercolor leather. It is sturdy and durable like Epsom leather, but its grains are not stamped like Epsom so it is more scratch resistant.
Birkins are produced in Novillo leather. A Birkin in Novillo leather seems to be a good choice because it is durable, lightweight, scratch resistant, absorbs color well, and has a smooth feel. The leather seems to have the best qualities from all the popular leathers such as Togo, Clemence, Epsom and Evercolor.
If you are offered a Birkin in Novillo leather, we suggest you go see it, feel the weight of it, observe the sheen and smoothness of the leather, and decide if it is the right fit for your lifestyle.
Good luck and happy shopping.
