Question:
Hi! I was very lucky to score a Kelly 25 in Paris through the lottery system at the beginning of October. Do I disclose this to my local SA next time I’m in the boutique? I’m thinking being forthright is the best policy as the profiles will be linked sooner or later regardless. (I live in Canada).
Dear Honesty Is the Best Policy:
If your profile is not linked with Paris then it is your choice whether to disclose the fact you were offered a Kelly 25 in Paris. Before July, 2022 when the US profiles were in the process of being linked to Paris, even if you disclosed to your SA that you scored a bag in Paris you could still be offered a quota bag from your home boutique. That has now changed since the systems are now linked. Even if you do not disclose the bag to your SA, it is likely they will review your profile before offering you a quota bag.
Since inventory is so low, Hermès seems to be changing the rules. Now any bag with the name Kelly (pochette, danse, cut) can be considered a quota bag. In addition, a Constance is quota bag in some locations as well. Further, other boutiques have instituted a one quota bag per year rule. We are also hearing that if you receive a non-quota bag, your ability to be offered a quota bag in the ensuing months may be impacted.
Because of all these changes and new rules, if you are hoping for a quota bag offer from your boutique this year, and your profile is not linked to Paris, you may consider not disclosing your new Kelly 25 to your SA at this time. But if you’re close to your SA like most are, you may not want to be deceptive. It’s ultimately your call but I agree: honesty is the best policy. Remember, ultimately there is a high probability your profile will soon become linked and transparent no matter where you live.
Good luck and happy shopping.
