Question:
I am looking into starting my Hermès journey. Can my first purchase be an Evelyne or does this bag need purchase history as well? I don’t really plan on buying non bag items, and am not looking to buy a Kelly or a Birkin.
Dear Hermès Journey:
When starting your Hermès journey, you do not technically need a prior spend history to request an Evelyne bag or other non-quota bag such as a Garden Party, Picotin, Lindy, Herbag, etc. Theoretically, if it is in stock, an SA could sell it to you.
However, because stock is extremely low due to the Pandemic, and demand has been higher than ever, it is extremely difficult to purchase even non-quota bags in the US. This is where an SA who knows you could help you get placed on a waiting list, or may order the bag you desire, and will contact you when it becomes available.
For these reasons, it is advantageous to connect with one SA in your local store who can advise you whether they can get you the bag you desire. You can purchase any products you desire without a spend history, provided it is in stock, except the Birkin, Kelly or Constance.
However, each boutique operates slightly differently. Depending how competitive and busy your local boutique is may affect how easy or difficult it is to purchase non-quota bags. Remember, there are likely established clients who also request non-quota bags and may be waiting a long time. So patience goes a long way in this process.
Hermès bags are all hand made and never mass produced. There is a very limited quantity of these bags available at any given time. Demand often exceeds the supply making it challenging to obtain what you want.
If you ever decide to start working toward being offered a Birkin or Kelly you should explore the other products Hermès has to offer. Building a good relationship with one SA and shopping exclusively with that person is an excellent start to your journey. Your SA is your to the items you desire. You will likely fall in love with all Hermès products like the rest of us.
