Dear PurseBop,
I am starting my Hermès journey. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada where there is no Hermès store. If I buy Hermès items from their website, is it considered as a spend under my profile to be offered a bag or only in-store purchases since I won’t have an SA for online purchases? I’d appreciate your response. Thank you.
Dear Shopper Online:
Purchases made online at Hermes.com do not typically apply to a client’s pre-spend history in their home store. Generally, the best way to be offered a leather bag is in store after connecting with one SA. Since you do not have a store near your home it is obviously difficult to build a relationship with a SA.
Leather non-quota bags are sold online at Hermes.com but they sell within minutes of being posted and are quite difficult to secure, but not impossible. One suggestion is to try to purchase a non-quota bag online.
Another suggestion is to connect with a SA in another city in Canada and ask if you can shop with them and ship items to you. This was more common during covid but they may be willing to accommodate you or have suggestions on how to pursue your journey. It really depends on your goals.
Some Hermès boutique managers will consider your online purchase history when deciding to offer you a leather bag. So it could help you. But you must be transparent and let your SA or the manager know you have no local store so you purchase online.
Finally, you can travel to Paris and try to obtain an online lottery appointment at one of the three locations and request a leather bag in person. Your online pre-spend history will not help you in store in Paris but your knowledge of the brand, your appreciation of Hermès luxury items, and your passion for the products will help if you share this with your SA.
Good luck and happy shopping.
