Dear PurseBop:
Does your pre-spend reset after you receive your SO? My understanding is that a SO is a “bonus” for being a loyal client and is in addition to your 2 quota bags a year.
If you receive a quota bag in February and then your SO in August, would spend reset after receiving your SO in August or will your spend accumulate from receipt of your quota bag in February. Thanks!!
Dear Pre-Spend Inquirer:
You ask two very different questions and I will address each separately.
First, when offered the opportunity to create a Special Order (SO), the process of creating the SO does not count as one of your quota bags for that calendar year. However, once the SO arrives and you accept and pay for the bag, it then counts as one of your quota bags (at most if not all boutiques presently) for that year. It usually takes between 6-18 months to receive your Special Order.
Secondly, with respect to pre-spend, your purchase history is a running total of everything you have spent at your home boutique with your SA, as well as what you may have spent in any other boutiques or online in your country. The amount spent in between quota bag purchases vary based on your SA and your home store.
Although technically you do not have to make any purchases between the time you placed your SO and the time it arrives, be aware that there is an unspoken gesture to continue to make purchases to benefit your SA and your relationship with the store.
With respect to your pre-spend before you receive a quota bag from your home store, the manager may view your total spend, and how much you have spent since you received your last quota bag. We suspect both are important considerations when granting approval for a quota bag. Making any purchases regardless of the amount is what is most important to show your loyalty to the brand. However, if you are hoping to receive an offer of a mini kelly, a limited edition bag, or other highly competitive or coveted bag, it appears that the more you spend the better.
Hermès hopes that its clients will continue to shop with their SA regularly, make purchases that they love and will use, shop in various departments throughout the store, and build their purchase history at their own pace based on their budget, desire, and time allowance.
When your SA has a quota bag they want to offer, they must obtain manager approval by one or more managers. Approval is likely based on your total spend history, the variety of items purchased, the availability of the bag desired, and how long it has been since your last quota bag offer.
All of these factors, and possibly more, go into the decision to offer a quota bag. There is not a set amount that must be spent, in total or since your last quota bag, and this can vary from location to location. Hermès specifics remain a mystery.
Good luck and enjoy the process. Patience pays off in the long
run with Hermès.
