Dear PurseBop:
Have you noticed that the quality of Hermès bags’ craftsmanship is going down? One of my friends shared some pictures of a new Kelly and Birkin they bought with very questionable contrast stitching quality!
Dear Concerned About Hermès Quality:
Hermès quota handbags are handmade by one artisan. For this reason, there may at times be some form of irregularity. We have seen contrast stitching on some bags that was not perfectly aligned with varied length in stitches. Unfortunately we have seen community members concerned about the structure of the Kelly handles.
We pondered whether this is due to so many new artisans joining the company who have not yet had the same amount of experience crafting the exclusive handbags as others. We suspect these are some of the growing pains associated with the catapulted growth the brand has seen over the last few years.
We do not believe the overall quality of Hermès bags have declined. Rather specific incidents being reported.
Possibly the attempt to produce more items has lead an artisan to work faster than in the past. Nevertheless, the craftsmanship, quality, and workmanship of Hermès handbags is unsurpassed by any other design house. It continues to be an honor and a privilege to own and use one of their iconic bags.
We should add, when faults were identified in the cases shared with us, the SA/managers were very considerate and helpful in providing solutions.
