How Can I Determine What My Hermès Home Boutique Pre-spend Requirement Might Be?

Question:

The Hermes pre-spend seems to be necessary for a Birkin or Kelly. How can we learn what stores are more competitive and may have a 3:1 spend as opposed to the stores with a 2:1 spend or even a 1:1 spend? Wondering if it makes sense to change home boutiques if the goal is to get the dream bag.

Dear Curious About Pre-spend Amount:

In general, to obtain a Birkin or Kelly at a Hermès boutique in the US and many other locations, it usually requires a pre-spend with one SA. Although there are always exceptions, that is the generally recognized rule.

However, Hermès will never state that there is a pre-spend requirement or how much is required. Some suggestions to find out how the boutique closest to you operates is to ask someone you know who shops in that location to describe their experience. Or browse the boutique and speak with one or more SA’s. It is possible they will tell you how busy their store is, how competitive, how many SA’s are employed at that location, and how much you might have to spend before being offered a quota bag. Finally, you could look on social medial for any discussion about the location you are interested in, or ask a question on social media and see what responses you receive.

Otherwise, we recommend choosing a location that you are able to visit on a regular basis, that has an SA that you could build a relationship with, and is on that has enough variety to provide choices.

It is always a gamble to change home boutiques if you already have an established relationship with one location. As with all things Hermes, timing, luck, your choices, inventory availability, and many other factors affect when you will be offered a quota bag. Good luck and happy shopping.
