Dear PurseBop:
Can you please provide some tips for caring for our Hermès, Chanel, and other luxury handbags?
Dear Care for My Luxury Bags:
It is very important to care for your luxury handbags on a regular basis to keep them in their best condition. Here are 5 easy tips to incorporate into your daily routine.
- Wear: Enjoy and wear your luxury bags every day. However, do not overfill or stuff your leather and exotic handbags. This may stretch or distort their intended shape and size.
- Protect: Be careful to avoid prolonged contact between a light colored bag and dark clothing to prevent color transfer onto your handbag. The dye from most denim colors and other dark clothing materials have the potential to transfer onto your bag particularly when worn on the shoulder or crossbody. Be vigilant and aware of the clothes you pair with your luxury bag.
- Care: Always avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, artificial light, and moisture. Be aware of sunlight coming through your car, train, or airplane window as well. Any moisture that comes in contact with your leather or exotic bag can be harmful if not removed or absorbed immediately. Use an absorbent, soft, non-pilling cloth to dry any moisture or water that comes into contact with your bag.
- Clean: After every use, examine your bag for marks before storing your bag. Use only a soft cloth to remove any superficial marks seen on the surface. Use a light circular motion when cleaning your handbag.
- Store: It is recommended to store your handbag upright in its original dust bag with white tissue paper inside the bag or the original materials that came with the bag to help maintain its shape. Another recommended method to store your bag is in its original dust bag and original box the way the bag arrived when it was purchased. Store all bags away from direct sunlight or artificial light.
Enjoy: Love and appreciate the way your luxury handbag patinas over time while keeping it clean and free from external natural elements.
