Dear PurseBop:
I’ve always wanted to experience a runway fashion show in real life. My Sales Associate works in the leather goods department and so isn’t the most proactive when it comes to ready to wear. I would like to be able to pre-order ready to wear items and be invited to shows/previews. Should I get another Sales Associate in the ready to wear section or how do I encourage my Sales Associate to keep me in mind for these events?
Dear RTW Events:
Building a strong relationship with a Sales Associate in the ready-to-wear section is a great way to gain access to fashion events and pre-order opportunities. Here are some tips to consider:
Communicate Your Interests: Let your current Sales Associate know about your interest in ready-to-wear items and attending fashion events. Express your enthusiasm and desire to explore this aspect of the brand. They might be able to introduce you to the right people or keep you informed about upcoming events.
Be a Loyal Customer: Consistently shopping at the store and establishing a rapport with the entire staff can enhance your chances of being invited to special events. Loyalty is often rewarded in luxury retail.
Express Your Desire: Clearly express your interest in pre-ordering ready-to-wear items and attending fashion shows or previews. Politely inquire about the process for pre-orders and whether there are any requirements or criteria for attending events.
Specifically ask to be placed on the Mailing List for events: Ask if you can be added to the store’s mailing list or email newsletter. Many luxury brands send invitations to special events to their subscribed customers. Check the online portal as well and subscribe to the newsletter. This is a source used by some for invites to events.
Visit the store regularly: Being a familiar face in the store can help. Visit the store regularly, even if it’s just to browse. The more often you visit, the more likely you are to be remembered and included in special events.
Explore the brand’s Social Media: Follow the brand and the store on social media platforms. Sometimes, event invitations are shared through social media channels. Additionally, you might find announcements about new collections or events that you can inquire about.
Consider Switching to a SA in RTW: If your current Sales Associate in the leather goods department is not able to assist you effectively with ready-to-wear items, it might be worth exploring a relationship with a Sales Associate specifically in the ready-to-wear section. They might have more expertise and connections in the area you are interested in.
Always maintain a polite and respectful attitude. Sales Associates are more likely to go out of their way to assist customers who are courteous and appreciative of their help.
Remember that each store and luxury brand can have different policies and practices, so being proactive and communicative is key. By expressing your interests and desires clearly and respectfully, you increase your chances of being included in special events and pre-order opportunities.
