Question:
Hi! I’m looking for the truth about exotics! They appear to be more exclusive and desirable than regular leathers, yet I’ve heard that because they are more expensive, fewer people ask for them and they are, therefore easier to get. What are your thoughts? Is this true?
Dear Exotic Lover:
It is important to know that some luxury houses have stopped producing exotics such as Chanel. Hermes still produces exotics but some skins such as python are banned in some US states such as California.
To be offered an exotic quota or non-quota bag from Hermes requires a higher spend profile than the leather bags require. The amount is never specified exactly, but that is something that could be discussed with your SA. Exotic bags are generally reserved for Hermes’ VVIP clients who are usually long term clients with a large spending profile and a long relationship with the store.
The exotic bags are also at a higher price point, so it is true that they are more exclusive and more difficult to obtain than the leather bags. There are also fewer produced each season in comparison to leather bags. Presently all bags at Hermes are difficult to obtain, including exotics.
It is best to ask your SA at your boutique the best way to request and obtain an exotic bag. Good luck on your quest for an exotic bag. Everything is possible.
