Dear PurseBop:
I just got a mini kelly in Veau Madame leather! Is this a rare leather for the mini kelly? I don’t seem to see it that often. Also what should I know about Veau Madame? It seems like epsom but with a finer grain from my understanding.
Dear Rare Leather:
Congratulations on being offered a mini Kelly in Veau Madame leather. You are correct that this leather is a rare offer in a mini Kelly II. It is also sometimes produced in Kelly 25 Sellier, Birkin 25 Sellier, touch mini Kellys.
Mini Kellys are more commonly produced in Epsom or Chevre leather and less often in veau Madame leather. Other than exotic skins, these are the three most common leathers seen on a mini Kelly II.
Veau Madame leather is a stamped leather similar to Epsom but with many advantages. This leather has finer grains, is lighter in weight, has a beautiful subtle sheen, and is quite rare and special. Because of these features it adds an additional elegant touch and feel to the bag.
Veau Madame is relatively scratch resistant similar to Epsom. The only disadvantage is that if Epsom or Madame leather gets a deep scratch, it is more difficult for the Hermès spa to repair it. However, the good news is that this leather is quite durable and scratches are not as likely to happen as with more delicate leathers such as Box, Tadelakt, Swift, Jonathan, etc.
You should feel very lucky to have received a mini Kelly II in Veau Madame leather. It is quite special, rare, beautiful, and highly coveted. Maybe consider playing the lottery tonight.
