Is Barenia Faubourg leather a good choice for my first Hermes Birkin?

Question:

I was offered my first Birkin 30 Barenia Faubourg gold hardware. I have to pick it up tomorrow in my local store, super excited. My question, do you think Barenia is a good choice for my first bag?   I know the color will change patina overtime.

Dear First Birkin:

Barenia Faubourg leather was introduced in 2017. It was named after the mothership Hermes boutique in Paris (FSH) located on Rue de Faubourg Saint Honore.

It is similar to the heritage Barenia leather, but is mildly grained, which makes it more scratch resistant than Barenia. It feels and smells like Barenia, but has a similar look to Togo or Clemence,  with smaller grains. The color is very similar to Hermes’ Gold but deeper in color.

It is a great first Birkin because it is a rare and special offer. Although the grain makes it more scratch resistant, it does not like water. Avoid rain or spilling any liquid on your bag. Should water come in contact with your bag, blot it dry as soon as possible and allow it to fully dry. If there is any blemish the Hermes spa should be consulted.

You will love your new Birkin 30. It is a very special and rare leather and the color Fauve is stunning. Enjoy your new Birkin, use her with care, as with all luxury bags. Just avoid water or any liquid coming in contact with your bag.

Congratulations and enjoy your first Birkin!
